Hanwoo beef is one of Korea’s most prized food exports, known for its fine marbling and rich, buttery flavour. Until recently, Hanwoo beef could only be enjoyed in Korea due to strict export restrictions.
In 2024, this changed with the Singapore–Korea bilateral trade agreement, which officially allowed Hanwoo beef to be exported here.
Diners can now enjoy authentic Hanwoo beef at selected Korean restaurants across Singapore!
What Is Hanwoo Beef?
Hanwoo beef, which translates to “Korean beef”, is a premium cattle breed native to South Korea.
Known for its fine marbling, tenderness and deep umami, Hanwoo differs from Japanese Wagyu with a lower 40–50% fat ratio, resulting in a less greasy but richly beefy finish.
The Hanwoo beef available in Singapore is sourced from Jeju Island, using the local brown cattle (hwang-so) breed.
It is graded under Korea’s official beef grading system (1++, 1+, 1 and below), which evaluates marbling, colour and texture.

Bedrock Bar & Grill and Bedrock Origin will both be offering Jeju Hanwoo cuts.
Enjoy woodfire grilled Jeju Hanwoo Striploin ($128, 150g) at Bedrock Bar & Grill, alongside a Hanwoo Horizontal Tasting platter ($148) with ribeye, striploin and hamburg steak.
Bedrock Origin presents a special Applewood Grilled Hanwoo Ribeye Fillet ($128, 150g) and Ribeye Platter ($188, 280g) featuring the fillet, cap and tail.

Michelin-starred modern Korean restaurant NAE:UM offers Hanwoo beef as an add-on to their signature Moments ($288++) menu.
At a $38 top-up, diners can enjoy the buttery cut as part of the Hansang course, which features a deodeok and mushroom gomtang base.

GU:UM has introduced Jeju Hanwoo Lower Loin Grade 1+ to 1++ ($238, 300g) into their menu! The cut is grilled over charcoal for a smoky, roasted finish and served with their house banchan.

COTE Singapore

A Michelin-starred restaurant hailing from New York, Korean steakhouse COTE Singapore presents two Jeju Hanwoo beef cuts: Striploin 1++ (BMS 9) and Middle Loin 1++ (BMS9).
These premium cuts are available in limited quantities on their a la carte menu, served through their signature tableside grilling ritual.

Fat Cow
While Fat Cow might specialize in Wagyu beef, they have introduced Hanwoo beef into their set lunch menu! The Charcoal-Grilled Hanwoo Donburi ($75) is glazed with Japanese-Korean soy, served alongside a kombu butter and signature fat rice.
This menu is available daily from 12pm to 3pm.
