Korea has done it again. From aesthetically pleasing cafe concepts to robot arm baristas, the cafe scene in Korea is not letting Covid-19 bring them down. 33gate (삼삼게이트) is a relatively new cafe in Busan with an airport concept, where you get issued tickets, and dine in an environment that resembles a departure gate waiting area.
Airport Themed Cafe in Busan
With Covid-19 putting a halt to overseas travels, 33gate has managed to bring back that feeling of excitement of being at an airport.
It’s that feeling of being at the airport, with all your luggage checked in and you’re just waiting for the flight to bring you to wherever you’re going. (when can we ever experience that feeling that again 😥)
Interior at 33gate
The cafe is located on the 2nd level, and along the way you’ll encounter signs that direct you to the cafe. Even standing outside the cafe’s entrance will make you feel like you’re about to enter a departure gate area.
Everything from the layout of the cafe, to the seats used, resembles the airport. There are also signboards that you rely on so much when in airports.
Upon arrival, you’re issued “airplane tickets” which can be customized using a label printer provided in the cafe. 33gate also printed all the information you need on the ticket such as the wi-fi password.
There is also a photo corner with luggage you can use as props.
Orders are placed at the counter which looks similar to those you see near boarding gates in airports.
Menu at 33gate
33gate is ultimately a cafe just in case you forgot while looking at the photos, so they do serve drinks and food.

They offer a range of espresso-based drinks such as Americano, Latte and Einspanner. 33gate’s signature drink is a non-coffee drink known as Unicorn, which is a blend of blueberries with swirls of matcha. Very aesthetic.
Food-wise, they serve a signature plate of toast, ham and cheese. The concept is to provide customers with a hotel breakfast experience.
Unique Cafe in Busan
33gate is definitely a unique cafe concept in Busan that will help relive the travel blues slightly. Will you still visit this cafe when you can visit Korea in the future?
