Spring is right around the corner for Korea! The months of March and April are filled with all types of blooms, spring festivals, and activities that are bucket list-worthy. No trip to Korea goes without a mention of Jeju Island, a popular place for spring.
The island boasts a completely different feel with its oceanic views, unique volcanic rock formations, and a climate perfect for viewing spring flowers.
If you’re thinking of traveling to Jeju for the season, here’s our guide on how to maximise your trip there!
Jeju Spring Weather
Based on last year’s weather patterns, the daily temperatures in Jeju are expected to range between 17 degrees Celsius during the day to 5 degrees Celsius at night.
We recommend bringing a jacket, thick cardigan, or windbreaker as it can get quite chilly. Light thermals are also good for those who are sensitive to the cold.
We were also caught off guard by how rainy it was! This is known as spring rain and in our experience can last the whole day – so it’s important to bring an umbrella or poncho.
Types Of Spring Flowers In Jeju
There are two main types of flowers you can catch in Jeju: cherry blossoms and canola flowers.
Cherry blossoms generally first start blooming in Jeju during mid-March before moving upward to Seoul and Busan in late March and April – making Jeju a good first stop for your spring trip! They are beautiful but fickle, making it hard to accurately predict their lifespan.
For reference, here are the forecasted peak bloom dates:
Canola flowers are less talked about but just as pretty! You might have heard of them being used in Korean skincare and beauty, but they’re just as popular for sightseeing.
These small, yellow flowers are usually found in large fields and are breathtaking in full bloom.
Where To See Cherry Blossoms In Jeju
Jeonnong-ro Cherry Blossom Street
A popular place to enjoy the blooms is Jeonnong-ro Cherry Blossom Street (제주 전농로 벚꽃거리), one of the sites for the annual Jeju Cherry Blossom Festival!
The entire street is lined with cherry blossom trees and cherry blossom-themed murals, designed for pictures or a leisure stroll. We didn’t get a chance to participate in the festivities but there are usually booths, workshops and even performances!
If you’re looking to take pictures, we recommend coming earlier in the day to avoid crowds.

Samseonghyeol
About a 25-minute walk away from Jeonnong-ro Cherry Blossom Street is Samseonghyeol (제주 삼성혈), a historical shrine. It is dedicated to the three demigods of Jeju – Goeulla (Go), Yangeulna (Yang), and Bueulna (Bu).
There’s a sacred cluster of three holes in the ground which are believed to be the birthplaces of said demigods. It’s observed that they are untouched by snow and even the trees around grow toward it.
The cherry blossom trees are located within the shrine, located about 10 minutes walk from the entrance. There were only 4 trees but they were enough to fill the space with blooms.
It looked like a scene straight out of a period K-drama: the white flowers in front of the red traditional buildings and petals falling in the breeze. Literally picture-perfect!
Aside from the cherry blossoms, there’s a picturesque forest at the entrance of the shrine which also makes for good photos.

Noksan-ro
Our favourite and most memorable cherry blossom spot is Noksan-ro (녹산로). It is a 10km stretch of road along Gasi-ri Village in Seogwipo-si, also known as the flower road.
What makes this place so great is that you can catch both cherry blossoms and canola flowers in one place and in great quantity!
The flowers extend for the entire length of the road, and the surrounding fields also have wind turbines which make for great photo spots.
This spot was extra special for us because there were clear skies after days of rain, so we got to see the combination of pink, yellow and blue.
We highly recommend this place! The road is quite out of the way so we recommend getting a KakaoTaxi or booking a driver.

Where To See Canola Flowers In Jeju
Sanbangsan
Canola flower fields can be spotted all around Jeju, but a scenic spot to catch them is Sanbangsan (산방산).
Sanbangsan is a volcanic rock mountain with a cave within it. It’s a popular hiking and sightseeing trail if you’re fond of nature! There are a few large canola fields at the foot of the mountain, populated with clusters of yellow flowers.
It’s framed by the misty mountain peak and blue sky, so you’re sure to get a good picture regardless of the angle!
Do note that some canola fields require an entry fee of about 1,000won, after which you can get access to the whole field.

Seoubong Peak
Another scenic canola flower spot is Seoubong Peak (서우봉). It’s another volcanic rock hill located right beside Hamdeok Beach (함덕해수욕장) and in spring, it’s covered in fields of canola flowers.
The fields are about a 20-minute short hike from the beach but isn’t too taxing.
The views are definitely worth the hike! It was a sea of yellow and at the right angle you can catch a glimpse of both the emerald sea and bright yellow flowers.
It was unfortunately cloudy when we went but we felt it was just as picturesque. On a clear day it’s said that you’re able to see Hallansan from the summit. If you’re lucky, you might even get a glimpse of a horse grazing the fields.

Seongeup Folk Village
For something unique, add Seongeup Folk Village (성읍민속마을) to your list.
There’s a canola field located near the entrance of the village, in front of a fort! It’s smaller than the other locations but still worth a snap in the area.
Aside from this, the village itself is worth exploring. It showcases traditional Jeju housing and culture, including a sizeable number of relics and monuments.
The houses differ from usual folk villages, made with volcanic rock and thick thatched roofs.
