Situated near the Bukchon Hanok Village in Gahoe-dong is Halff Coffee, a cafe that we like to describe as a perfect spot to do some people watching.
Cafe Near Bukchon Hanok Village
If you’re wondering why Halff is spelled with 2 ‘f’s, it’s because it represents half and half. The Anguk outlet is not their only outlet, with other stores located in Cheonan, Daegu, and in other parts of Seoul, like Seongsu.
Interior-wise, while the cafe might look huge on the outside, the space was rather narrow. Surprisingly, this spot used to be their roasting space and was opened after some remodelling works.
The first floor is where you can actually enjoy your drinks and communicate with the barista, or simply stare out of the window and do some people-watching. The second floor is where the roasting facilities are, along with some additional seats.
Halff Coffee Anguk outlet only serves drinks while some of the other outlets have a bakery element to them, serving bakes such as cakes and doughnuts. However, this outlet also boasts a wider variety of single origins compared to the other stores.
Some interesting menu items include the Banana Cream Latte (5,500won) and Black Sesame Cream Latte (6,000won) which are only available iced.
We tried the Butter Cream Latte (6,500won) which is one of their most famed drinks. It came in two distinct layers, one for the coffee and one for the butter cream. You’re supposed to drink it just as it is, without mixing and without a straw.
The cream was smooth and tasted just like a mix of butterscotch and dalgona. There are nice, caramelized flavours that are not too overpowering and went really well with the coffee. It’s definitely more on the sweet side but was really fragrant and delicious.
Grab a cup to go while exploring Bukchon Hanok Village and the Anguk area or simply find a nice spot on the first floor to watch the world pass by.
