While the name suggests that Yeast Side would be in the East, it’s actually the opposite. Yeast Side is a new cafe located in the West, over at KAP mall, taking over Kindred Folk’s previous space.
The place serves sourdough, a wide range of bakes, coffee and craft beers on tap. Looks like KAP mall just got a whole lot more exciting!
Cafe At King Albert Park
Since Yeast Side is utilizing Kindred Folk’s previous space, not much has changed on the 2nd floor. The huge windows are still there, letting it lots of natural sunlight. There’s a nice corner with a sofa and several seats facing the windows if you want to just space out.
You place your order on the first floor, where you can also take a look at the bakes available for the day. Outdoor seating is also available on the 1st floor but tends to get a bit warm, especially on afternoons.
Menu at Yeast Side @ KAP Mall
For their brunch menu, they have items such as Ham & Cheese Toast ($14), Mushroom Croque Monsieur ($14) and Honey Spelt Toast ($5).
They also have a list of rotating bakes, from the usual croissants to more interesting ones such as Speculoos Brownies, Spinach Feta Brioche Buns and Matcha Ganache Cruffins.
Here’s what we tried:
Salmon & Ricotta Tartine
From their brunch menu, we went for a relatively safe choice which was the Salmon & Ricotta Tartine ($14).
We loved how all the elements complemented each other: the saltiness and savoury flavours from the smoked salmon went really well with the cream cheese. It wasn’t too heavy, yet it had just the right level of creaminess.
The fresh dill added a nice earthy, herb flavour which paired well with the vinegary and zesty flavours of the capers.
The sourdough toast was nicely baked as well, with just a teeny tinge of sourness. Might take some to cut through the crust though.
Banana Butter Nut Toast
Since it was served with soft sliced bananas, we did hope for a crustier and crispier slice of bread. However, the bread was more towards the soft and chewy side.
This resulted in a mushy texture for every bite we took. Flavour-wise, the nut butter went really well with the banana, which had a savoury, intense peanut butter-ish taste.
It wasn’t bad, just maybe too many soft textures.
Flat White
We had the Flat White ($5) to round up our meal. It was a relatively balanced cuppa and wasn’t too milky.
They also have other drinks such as Caramel Latte ($6), Mocha ($6) and Kombucha.
If coffee isn’t your thing, you’ll be glad to know that Yeast Side serves craft beers on tap from 4pm onwards. There’s also a range of canned beers on the 2nd floor.
Great Spot For Brunch near Beauty World
Yeast Side is a stone’s throw away from the Bukit Timah Truss Bridge near King Albert Park MRT, making it a great spot for anyone who’s ending their hike along the rail corridor or early morning cycle.
At night (to be more exact, from 4pm onwards), Yeast Side turns itself into a local watering hole and serve craft beers on tap.
Bakes are available from 9am till sold out.
