In our humble opinion, Reply K1988 in Jalan Besar has some of the most authentic and best Korean charcoal barbecue in Singapore. We’re happy to share that the KBBQ restaurant has opened a second outlet, bringing the same memorable experience to Alexandra Road!
Inspired By The K-Drama
For those unfamiliar, the restaurant was inspired by the Korean drama Reply 1988 because the Korean owner loved the show so much!
The new space is within walking distance of Labrador Park MRT on the second floor of an office building.
It’s much bigger than their Jalan Besar outlet and features private rooms. The space leans into the retro vibes, with Korean window decals and vintage trinkets.
There’s also a free-flow banchan station in the middle with classic options like marinated onions, kimchi and seasoned radish.
Reply K1988 Alexandra Menu
The Korean barbecue menu is exactly the same as the Jalan Besar outlet, offering beef, pork and chicken KBBQ sets.
The selection includes a Beef Set G ($98/2 pax, 400g) with Prime Rib Eye, Beef Brisket and Marinated LA Beef Shortrib.
For pork, get the Pork Set D ($68/2 pax, 400g) that has Duroc pork belly, pork collar and pork jow. They also have mixed combinations for the best of everything!
There are also sides like Korean Fried Chicken (from $24), Kimchi Jiggae ($16) and Haemul Pajeon ($23).
Something exclusive to Alexandra are lunch sets. These include one protein (chicken, bulgogi, stir-fried pork) and eight side dishes, served in a baekban style!
Beef & Pork Set A
We got the Beef & Pork Set A ($138/ 3-4 pax, 780g). It also includes Steamed Egg and a choice of Doejang Jiggae or Kimchi Jiggae.
The meat cuts included Beef Brisket and Duroc Black Pork Belly, which were our favourites.
Their quality never disappoints, with a clean taste and fatty finish.
The staff grill all the meat for you and do it perfectly: golden brown outside but still juicy within.
There are two marinated cuts, Marinated LA Beef Shortrib and Marinated Pork.
The marinades are balanced between sweet and savoury, made even tastier by the caramelisation on the grill.
Bonus: Daechang
An underrated item is Daechang ($29/serving), or large intestine!
These are extra indulgent, with a crispy exterior and juicy, fatty interior. There isn’t any gameiness or funk either!
Sides
A classic side dish is Flying Fish Roe Rice ($12), which you mix and shape by hand.
These are addictive and easy to eat, a great appetiser or side.
Speaking of meat pairings, no Korean barbecue meal is complete without Bibim Naengmyeon ($18).
The chilled, chewy noodles are the perfect pairing with the samgyeopsal and a must-order!
We also got to try their Yukhoe ($32) prepared in Majang-style, inspired by the wholesale Majang Meat Market in Seoul.
This had thicker meat slices but the same clean, tender texture; on top of the creamy egg yolk and sweet crunchy.
Nakgeopsae Jeongol
The Nakgeopsae Jeongol ($68) isn’t a dish you find in Singapore. It combines octopus (nakji), intestine (geopchang, daechang) and prawn (sae-woo) in a rich, spicy broth.
This really hit the spot after the grilled meats, with the warm and rich spiciness calming the stomach. Would do good with some rice!
