Located near the entrance to Jamwon Hangang Park is Hrr Seoul, a glasshouse cafe with a simple menu of bagels and coffee.

Hrr, which is phonetically translated from the Korean onomatopoeic word, 흐르르, is said to resemble the shapes of waves. Coupled with the fact that the site of the cafe used to be a ferry dock in olden times, the interior of the cafe was done with the concept of being a dock where you can come and go.

You’ll find tiny, yet detailed elements of wood in the form of wooden pillars in a mainly white-colored interior.

With the sunlight shining in from the glass windows and roof, the effect is supposed to remind one of the sunlight rays shining through the water. When we visited, we notice a huge construction area opposite the cafe, which blocked the sunlight. Hence, we would recommend visiting the cafe in the morning or in the afternoon for the best lighting.

The cafe only has 3 tables inside and can sit up to 8 pax maximum at one time. There are 4 seats outside, which might be more appropriate for those having drinks only.

Menu at Hrr Seoul

Hrr Cafe in Seoul has a simple menu of bagels, sandwiches, and beverages.

For coffee, you have the usual Americano (4,500won), Cafe Latte (5,500won), Vanilla Bean Latte (6,000won), and Latte with Condensed Milk (6,000won). Non-coffee drinkers can indulge in their array of teas and menu items like Choco Shake (6,500won), Grapefruit Juice (6,500won), and Lemon Ade (6,000won).

For Sandwiches, they have Jambon Sandwich (8,000won) and Salmon Sandwich (8,500won).

The main selling item here would be their bagels, which come in various flavours such as the Blueberry Bagel (3,800won), Laugen Bagel (4,500won), Squid Ink Cheese Bagel (4,500won), Cheese Potato Bagel (4,500won) and Spinach Bagel (4,500won) – to name a few.

A bagel isn’t complete with cream cheese, so take your pick from a variety of cream cheeses like Chipotle Cream Cheese (3,500won), Chives Bacon Cream Cheese (3,500won), Blueberry Cream Cheese (3,500won), and Corn Cream Cheese (3,500won).

We got the Salt Bagel (4,500won) with the Maple Cinnamon Cream Cheese (3,500won) which was a combination recommended by the staff. She mentioned that the sweet-salty combination (also known as단짠dan-jjan in Korean) was a favourite among Koreans.

The bagel had a crispy exterior which was further contrasted by the soft and chewy interior. As for the maple cinnamon cream cheese, it was creamy and thick with a nice subtle sweetness to it, along with a cinnamon fragrance.

The sweetness was further accentuated by the saltiness of the bagel, which was a nice combination of flavours.

We washed everything down with a Korean classic, the Iced Americano (4,500won).
