When we first heard of Good Bites, we were pretty shocked by its location. A cafe here…? Located inside Bishan Sports Centre, one might find the place slightly out of the way.
You’ll easily spot the place by the neon signs and fairy light decorated terrace. You can choose to sit either indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather condition for that day. We’d imagine the outdoor seating to be a great choice on cooling nights, or supper dates at 2 am.
The indoor seating isn’t that bad either, with comfortable air conditioning. We also heard how the place is nicer during the day, with natural light seeping in through the blinds.
Menu at Good Bites
As a western-fusion cafe, you can expect classic items like cream pasta and burgers. Their pasta selection has quite a few Thai-inspired options such as Pad Thai Pasta ($11.99/$13.99), Thai Green Curry Pasta ($11.99/$13.99) and Thai Basil Pasta ($11.99/$13.99).
They also have mains like Baked Salmon ($17.99) and a small selection of Thai food like Tom Yum Soup with Rice ($10.99/$12.99).
Fried Chicken & Waffle
A pretty safe dish would be the Fried Chicken & Waffle ($15.99) which is served along with some butter and maple syrup. The fried chicken was nicely and evenly battered and wasn’t dry. Waffle was nice and crispy on the outside but was slightly on the denser side.
Grilled Free-Range Chicken
One of our favourite dishes of the night! The Grilled Free-Range Chicken ($14.99) comes with lots of sides such as mashed potato, grilled corn, broccoli, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes.
The chicken was well grilled and went so well with their house-made cream sauce with herbs.
Tom Yum Seafood Pasta
If you ask the staff what they recommend, most of them will point to the Tom Yum Seafood Pasta ($13.99) which has become some sort of a signature item here.
We loved the mix of zesty flavours that paired with the spiciness of the dish. The spiciness continues to build as you eat and might not be the best option for non-spicy eaters. The squid was also cooked really nicely and wasn’t rubbery in texture at all.
Mini Milkshakes
If you’re a fan of milkshakes, you can dig into items like the Gummy Pop Milkshake or Salted Caramel Milkshake ($8.99). If you’re curious what Gummy Pop is, it had a cotton candy flavour profile.
Other flavours include Berry Sweet, Chocolove and Cookie Top.
They also have a larger version known as the Mighty Milkshake which is priced at $10.99. Great to share between 2, and comes in 5 flavours: Double Chocolate, Caramel Popcorn, Strawberry Gem, Classic Vanilla and Cookie Crush.
Passionfruit Sparkling Americano
The Passionfruit Sparkling Americano ($7.99) is one of their 5 signature iced coffee drinks at Good Bites. This was a rather interesting drink, with slight sweet flavours and fruity notes of passionfruit.
It’s a drink similar to Espresso Tonic, but sweeter with the inclusion of passionfruit.
Speculoos Croffles
One of the newer items on their menu are the croffles. We went for the Speculoos Croffles ($7.99) which was topped with a Lotus Cookie and crumbs.
The croffle itself was on the chewy side, almost like a mochi rice cake. We did hope the exterior could have been a bit crispier.
Molten Chocolate Lava Cake
The Molten Chocolate Lava Cake ($10.99) is made fresh upon each order and is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Halal Cafe in Bishan Open Till 5AM Daily
With lots of places closing around 10:30 pm nowadays, Good Bites’ operating hours really stand out. It makes a great supper spot for those staying nearby, and a nice dinner spot at night with the fairy light decorated terrace.
