Summer is usually associated with the blazing heat and terrible humidity. But in Korea, it marks the season of summer festivals and outdoor activities! The Daegu Chimaek Festival is one of them, an annual event in Daegu celebrating Korean fried chicken and beer.
Korean Fried Chicken Festival
As the name suggests, the Daegu Chimaek Festival highlights the best of Korean fried chicken, with fringe activities to complete the experience.
It’s held in Daegu city because it’s considered the birthplace of major Korean fried chicken brands, including Hosigi Dumari Chicken and Doran Chicken.
Daegu Chimaek Festival 2025 is from 2 July to 6 July 2025 at Duryu Park (두류공원).
We went for the 2024 edition and here are some things you can look forward to!
Getting To Daegu
We recommend taking intercity trains (KTX, ITX, Mugunghwa) from Seoul to Daegu. The journey takes about 3 hours, and ticket prices start from 29,000 won (~SGD28).
You can do a day trip to Daegu for the festival or stay overnight. We chose to stay at an Airbnb only 10 minutes’ walk from Duryu Park, which made it comfortable!
Daegu Chimaek Festival 2025 Tickets
Here is what’s free for the general public:
- Entry to the festival grounds
- Shared public seating
- Live musical performances
- Access to booths, photo spots and games
You just need to pay for your beers and fried chicken!
VIP packages are available, where you get a private table and other benefits like complimentary beer. The festival has multiple seating areas and those also have separate fees.
Outdoor Seating
The festival spans across the entire length of Duryu Park, with dedicated areas for booths, games, mini concerts and more.
This year presents an MBTI-inspired corner, Egg-some Garden busking stage and even Chimaek The Club with live DJs!
A fun section to look out for is the Waterpia, where you can soak your feet in cool water while you enjoy your chicken.
The main area is located in the park centre. It’s decked out with a stage and lots of seating, and there’s even an open grass patch for picnics.
There are Cass beer stands and a selection of 10 different Korean fried chicken brands set up for your choosing!
We opted for the VIP package and got ushered to a segmented area with our own table, clear view of the stage and five complimentary cans of Cass beer.
Korean Fried Chicken Brands
The star is the lineup of fried chicken brands at the festival. There were 11 brands, including names like Kyochon Chicken, Mexicana and more!
There’s everything from original fried chicken to whole roasted chicken to spicy yangnyeom, so you’ll be spoilt for choice. Some brands take this opportunity to launch new flavours so you can have an exclusive sneak peek!
The best part? Nothing is above $15 (15,000 won), even for full-sized portions! We were able to fill our table with four brands of chicken at only about $50.
Cass is the main beer sponsor, and you can get beer on tap and chilled cans for 3,000 won. Alcohol-free variations are also available.
It tastes as good as you imagine. Freshly-fried, crispy and juicy with flavourful sauces and toppings like onions and cream sauce! Perfect washed down with a mouthful of cold beer.
Live Musical Performances
There’s so many entertainment options available, including full performances by K-pop idols, dance troupes and more.

The 2025 lineup features BI, Chungha and Eunbi, so you’re guaranteed to have a good time!
It was a fun and unique experience jamming to live music while enjoying Korean fried chicken, almost like a mini music festival. They even shot water canons, like Waterbomb!
