After months of delaying its opening, Canberra Plaza is finally opened. We headed down to take a first look at the mall that’s a stone throw away from Canberra MRT.
Here’s what to do at Canberra Plaza:
A&W
The store that everyone was waiting for. A&W has set up a store here in Canberra Plaza and we think it’ll probably be the reason why people visit the area. First day opening has already attracted long queues.
McDonald’s PlayPlace
There’s also a McDonald’s here for your McSpicy and McNugget cravings. We also saw a PlayPlace here which is a playground for kids and potential party space for birthday parties.
We didn’t see any kids running and playing around in the PlayPlace, probably due to Covid-19 restrictions?
As the walkways in the mall were too narrow, there was a separate queue outside for those who want to visit A&W and McDonalds, so do take note.
Mr Bean and DoQoo
The Singapore brand continues to hold a strong presence in neighbourhood malls with its cheap and delicious soy products. Mr Bean recently celebrated their 25th anniversary with a $2.50 discount booklet! (Did you get yours?)
The Canberra Plaza outlet is also home to its sister brand, DoQoo, selling traditional desserts reimagined with a touch of affordable indulgence.
Starbucks
We were honestly quite surprised to see a Starbucks in a heartland mall, and this outlet looks like it’s going to be popular with the kids. Studying in Starbucks, are you a fan of that or not?
You get a nice view of the outside with lots of natural light flooding in.
Daiso
The best place to get cheap and affordable stuff. The nearest Daiso in the area previously was the one at Sembawang Shopping Centre, so this new Daiso outlet in the North will probably be more convenient for the Canberra peeps.
Level 3 Water Play Park and Seats
There’s a water play park at level 3 but was not open when we visited on opening day. We’re guessing it’s due to Covid-19 social distancing efforts.
There are also nice outdoor seats on level 3.
New Mall Beside Canberra MRT
Probably as it was opening day, the mall was relatively crowded. However, some of the walkways were really narrow and are not suited for long queues. It was a good choice on the management’s part to make a separate queue for A&W outside the mall for social distancing measures.
If you’re looking for things to do near Canberra MRT, you can probably check out Canberra Plaza for a quick lunch before visiting the nearby Sembawang Hot Springs.
