Located near popular establishments like P.S Cafe Petit and Plain Vanilla, The Butcher’s Wife is a vibrant haven in Tiong Bahru for Brazilian-inspired cuisine and natural wines. Making a lot of their sauces and ingredients in-house, you probably can’t tell that The Butcher’s Wife is a gluten-free restaurant from the food they serve.

The space at The Butcher’s Wife is decorated in vibrant colours, with lots of natural wine bottles lining up against the walls, further emphasizing how they offer bottles of unique natural wines.
There’s a spot where natural light comes in from the roof near the end of the restaurant, and it’s just beautiful during the day. You can also opt for the alfresco dining spots near the entrance, where it’s also pet-friendly.
Brazilian-Inspired Food in Singapore
The menu here at The Butcher’s Wife is packed with fermented indigenous ingredients with lots of elements handcrafted entirely from scratch. This is also how they are able to maintain a gluten-free status, by making everything themselves!
We started off our meal with The Wife’s Croquetas ($14), a take on the classic croquettes. The vegan-friendly croquetas are made using soy milk and folded with brined jackfruit, before being fried to a gorgeous golden brown, resulting in a crispy exterior with a creamy inside. Pair it with the fermented cashew chilli sauce, for an additional tangy punch!
While the Chargrilled Cabbage ($18) might not sound exciting, it’s a dish not to be missed. Basted with fragrant brown butter and paired with fresh pomegranate and pine nut salsa, there was a balance of smoky and fresh flavours with each bite. Topped off with a smooth red dragon fruit bbq sauce, vegetables have never tasted better.
Next was the Portobello ($20), seated atop a trio of sauces: creamy ricotta, smooth sweet potato puree and a herbaceous chermoula sauce. The portabello itself was savoury and meaty, with the sauces creating an aromatic medley of earthy, herby flavours in our mouths with each bite.
The beautifully cooked Lamb Picanha ($38) amazed us with its tender textures and non-gamey flavours. A popular cut in Brazil, the picanha was cooked to a perfect pink and paired well with the creamy pistachio yoghurt, fresh orange salsa and coriander that helped to balance out the buttery flavours.
Bite into the Acaraje ($25), a popular Brazilian street food. Here, it has been given a twist, incorporating homegrown flavours for a touch of nostalgia. Sandwiched between the house-made black eyed peas buns is a concoction of dried shrimp, nuts, coconut milk, green mango herb salsa and a juicy grilled prawn. Surprisingly, this dish gave off hints of local dishes like satay, rojak and laksa!
For desserts, we started with the Choc & Caramel Lava Cake ($18), which is made from regionally sourced bean to bar chocolate, spiked with soy-sauce caramel and paired with a vanilla bean ice cream. For something more refreshing, one can opt for the Fresh to Death ($16) instead. An unconventional spin on the almond financier, this dessert is made with fresh tropical fruit and tonka bean compote, passionfruit and crisp tulie, together with creamy fennel-infused ice cream.
Looking like tomato soup when served was the Romeo & Julieta ($16), a baked cheesecake with pink guava coulis – a classic Brazilian pairing of cheese and guava. The cheesecake was light and rich, which was further highlighted thanks to the fruity and tangy guava flavours.
Inspired by the Brazilian dessert Canjica, the Sticky White Corn Brulee ($14) is probably one of the more interesting desserts you can get at The Butcher’s Wife. Almost like sticky rice, the corn flavours are gentle and subtle when paired with the tangy passionfruit sorbet.
The Wife’s Feast
The restaurant has introduced ‘The Wife’s Feast’ which is an all-new lunch set that features South American flavours with a Southeast Asian touch. Priced at $38 per person, the feast requires a min of 2 diners.
You can also choose to enhance the experience with a glass of natural wine, with up to 14 labels to choose from! Best part? Each glass is priced at a mere $12.
The lunch set comes with Wagyu Churrasco, Prawn Vatapa, Grilled Chicken Wings, and Vegetable Moqueca served with Garlic Brown Rice.

We absolutely loved our experience at The Butcher’s Wife, a cozy and fun neighbourhood spot to get a taste of Brazilian-inspired food and a tipple or two. Special shoutout to their housemade kombucha as well, a must-try if you’re not thinking of getting any alcoholic drinks!
