Ever since we chanced upon The Eerang Tea Lounge in Korea, we’ve always longed to find a place in Singapore that channeled calming vibes where we can just chill. Enter SILK Tea Bar – a new tea bar tucked away on the 2nd floor of a shophouse in Chinatown, right beside a Chinese Medical Hall.
Hidden Modern Tea Bar in Chinatown
Once you climb up the stairs, you’ll experience totally different vibes from the streets of Chinatown.
SILK Tea Bar aims to not only promote the silky sensation of tea but the silky atmosphere where you don’t get bombarded by the external. True to its name, the place has a warm, cozy vibe to it, perfect for seeking shelter on a cold, rainy day. Calm, indie songs are playing in the background with the owners brewing some tea.
You can choose to sit at the bar or at a table. There’s enough seating for approximately 20 pax.
SILK Tea Bar Menu
SILK Tea Bar offers two different ways for you to enjoy your tea. Session Brews feature different progressive brews of your choice of tea, from Silk Signatures to House Standards.
They also have Single Brews, served in a mug with your choice of hot/cold brew. You can get a Wild Honey drink or Kombucha here as well. They also use natural spring water for their tea services.
Wild Peony Tea
We were recommended the Wild Peony #1 ($15) from their House Standard Menu for something that’s more unique when it comes to Chinese teas. It comes with three progressive brews that you can slowly enjoy.
The Wild Peony tea leaves are from Fuding, China, and is a type of white tea.
For the first steep, the tea felt light and exceptionally smooth. It had a nice mellow floral note but was not very overpowering. To be honest, you would expect a Wild Peony to be bursting with floral notes, but this was a pleasant, fruity treat.
On the second steep, the tea got a bit stronger and experienced the more beany notes of the tea.
Throughout the 3 steeps, you get progressively different notes (although subtle) which is a pretty fun experience.
Other teas that the staff recommended were the Shuixian #2, a type of Oolong Tea that’s less intense than black tea with notes of tobacco, roasted almonds, and citrus.
There’s also Dancong – Wild, with floral notes, ripe fruit, and malted candy notes, or the Chrysanthemum #1, with notes of cut grass and butter.
Great Place To Just Relax
With some spots in the tea bar having a view of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, a quick turn outside might make you feel like you’re overseas.
SILK Tea Bar doesn’t serve food, but they do have light snacks like Salted Peanuts ($2), Sugared Peanuts ($2), and Dried Apricot ($2) to go with your tea.
This is one of those places where we feel coming alone might be the best way to experience the calm and relaxing vibes. A great place for rest and some me-time.
While reservations are encouraged, they also welcome walk-ins.
