Korean BBQ is definitely one of the most loved Korean dishes in Singapore. You can now find lots of Korean BBQ restaurants opened by Koreans in Singapore, such as Charim Korean BBQ. Mimi Korean BBQ Restaurant in Tanjong Pagar is the latest addition to that list.
Korean BBQ Buffet in Tanjong Pagar
Opened by Koreans, Mimi Korean BBQ Restaurant drew our attention with their squid game mannequin located right outside their entrance. We saw a portrait of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse within the restaurant and thought that was why the restaurant was called Mimi.
However, it turns out the owners visited a few temples in Korea and got the name Mimi after learning it’ll bring them good fortune.
Interior-wise, it looks like any other Korean BBQ restaurant, with lots of tables and vents that’ll remove the smoke from your KBBQ. There are also a couple of private rooms for those that want a little bit more privacy.
Menu at Mimi Korean BBQ Restaurant
Apart from their BBQ Menu which has items like Beef Short Ribs, Black Pork, and Marinated Chicken Galbi, Mimi also serves Gamjatang (M $37, L $44) and Army Stew ($44).
They also have individually portioned items like Yukgaejang ($18), Galbitang ($18), and Korean Tonkatsu ($20). For those who like to drink, some popular items to go with your soju include Boneless Chicken Feet ($38), Squid & Pork Belly Bulgogi ($40), and Spicy Stir-Fried Pork ($32).
Steamed Beef & Vegetables with Cypress Steamer
We tried the Beef & Vegetables with Cypress Steamer (편백찜) which is one of their signature items here. It’s available during lunch & dinner – with the lunchtime pricing being significantly cheaper.
The other signature item is the Jeonju Volcano Galbi.
The Cypress Steamed Beef came in a wooden box, which is made using cypress wood. It came along with a timer and had to steam for around 15 mins. During this time, you can enjoy the side dishes which include items like mashed potato, kimchi, anchovies, and stir-fried fishcakes.
After 15 mins, you can find slices of beef inside, along with dumplings, mushrooms, and vegetables all on top of a bed of beansprouts.
The beef was really nice, with just a nice ratio of fat to meat. You can dip this in the sauces provided, one was a soy-sauce based sauce which we suspect was mixed with some vinegar. The other sauce was something like a sesame sauce.
It also comes with a side of noodles, which can be boiled using the broth below the steamer for a heartier meal.
Unlimited Korean BBQ Buffet
Mimi Korean BBQ Restaurant also has an unlimited buffet option. It’s priced at $29.50+ per adult and $19.50+ per child.
The BBQ Buffet comes with 7 types of meats:
- Beef Short Plate
- Pork Belly
- Marinated Pork Galbi
- Beef Bulgogi
- Spicy Pork Bulgogi
- Spicy Chicken Galbi
- Soya Chicken Galbi
Additional orders of meat are available once you finish your first order. Our go-to was the Pork Belly and Beef Short Plate. We weren’t a huge fan of the marinated meats, maybe except the Marinated Pork Galbi.
If you want more quality meats, go for the ala-carte instead of the buffet since they do have cuts like Black Pork Belly and Jowl.
Korean Food in Tanjong Pagar
Mimi Korean BBQ Restaurant joins the likes of popular Korean restaurants in Tanjong Pagar such as The Gogijip, On Dol, and more. The next time we visit, we’ll probably try some of their stews and ala carte items.
