When I got to dine at Meh’r By Inderpal, I was excited! The restaurant is helmed by Inderpal Singh, winner of MasterChef Singapore Season 4. I was curious to see what happens after a chef’s success on these types of shows, and also sample his culinary offerings!
Behind The Yellow Door
The restaurant is a little hard to get to. It’s in an alleyway 5-minutes walk from Clarke Quay MRT – spot the bright yellow door! Despite its slightly obscure location, the space is pleasantly cosy.
It was reminiscent of the street markets in Bangkok or Malaysia, with a fun street sign, exposed brick walls and even yellow road lines on the floor.
There was an impressive view of the Singapore riverside, which you can also enjoy from their rooftop bar.
Meh’r By Inderpal Menu
The food menu is small, featuring modern takes on popular street foods.
The dishes infuse flavours from across Asia, including India and Indonesia. Chef Inderpal changes the menu every three to four months to showcase a different theme!
When I visited, the menu was inspired by the KTM Express Train service that runs through Malaysia to Thailand. It’s available until 30 June 2025!
Flavour profiles included a Nand Rasam XLB ($22) with king crab rasam and lobster oil and Sikhhorng Kaem Neux ($62) featuring a wagyu beef cheek and yellow curry pumpkin puree.
There are also vegetarian options like Satay Merah Jambu ($22) with pink oyster mushroom and Jackfruit Murtabak ($38).
Small Plates
The meal began with Bak Bak Wings II ($26), an updated version of the dish Chef Inderpal presented on Masterchef Singapore.
This iteration presented a wing stuffed with Hainanese chicken rice and a drumlet with sweet charsiew sauce.
It was served alongside a chicken broth that was infused tableside using a Bunsen burner-esque device – fun touch!
The chicken was tender and smokey, infused with the rich marinades. Between the two, I enjoyed the wing more.
I liked the bite of the flavourful rice, plus the punch from their homemade banana chilli sauce. It perfectly encapsulated the dish in one bite!
The Scallop Ceviche ($34) featured flavours from Thailand with a tom kha reduction, Thai mango and basil oil.
This was light and refreshing but incredibly fragrant, perfumed by all the spices. The scallop was sweet and acted as a vessel for all the sauces, which I scrapped off the shell.
Thosai Matti
Something unique was the Thosai Matti ($28), aka sardine thosai. Chef shared this is only found in select stores in Singapore and Malaysia.
The dish was finished tableside with orange rind chutney, sambar and coconut espumma; served from a traditional chomuka (food serving tray).
The dosai had a sardine pate and crispy sardine on top. Despite the generous amount of fish, it wasn’t overly fishy!
I enjoyed it, even as someone who doesn’t fancy fish. It was balanced by the tangy dosai and beetroot; further enhanced by the zesty chutney and fragrant sambar.
Lamb Briyani
My favourite was the Lamb Biryani ($48). It was served with flair – a cloud of smoke – to reveal a tandoori lamb rack atop cranberry and pistachio biryani.
The biryani is one of the best I’ve tasted so far! Incredibly rich with spices with a good texture from the grains and nuts, but not too cloying.
The lamb rack was also tender with little to no gameiness, infused with rich, spicy, addictive tandoori seasoning.
Every bite was hearty and flavourful, balanced by the side of cucumber pickles – super satisfying!
Dessert
The Koh Phi Sang ($20) featured fried Thai banana, brown butter banana ice cream and coffee caramel with ginger (a nod to kopi halia).
My only complaint was that the batter was a tad too thick, but overall a great dessert. This was on the sweeter side but decadent, an enjoyable combination of warm banana and cold creamy ice cream.
Restaurant In Clarke Quay
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Meh’r By Inderpal, especially with the unique reimagination of Asian flavours! The ambience and city view also contribute to a comfortable dining experience.
