Hanare By Takayama is a stylish and comfortable Japanese restaurant in Takashimaya, hidden behind a pair of sleek bamboo doors.
The restaurant specialises in hearty and homey Japanese cuisine, which you can now enjoy with their new lunch sets!
Hanare By Takayama Lunch Set
There are three different lunch sets you can try: Sukiyaki, Donburi and their signature Kamameshi, a traditional rice dish cooked in an iron pot.
You can choose from items like Braised Pork Belly Kamameshi ($52), Unagi Kamameshi ($52), Chirashidon ($72) and Kitsune Udon ($22).
All the sets come with a salad, chawanmushi, seasonal sashimi, miso soup, pickles and even a dessert!
There are also other a la carte dishes you can get, including Assorted Tempura ($16) and Hokke ($32), grilled mackerel. We got to try both the lunch set and a selection of a la carte dishes.
Kagoshima A4 Wagyu Beef Sukiyaki
The Kagoshima A4 Wagyu Beef Sukiyaki ($70) lunch set is the newwest addition, which is also served in an iron pot.
Each sukiyaki pot comes with slices of Wagyu beef and toppings like tofu and cabbage in the classic sweet-savoury broth.
The beef was the right mix of fatty and beefy with a clean flavour, further complemented by the umami from the sukiyaki broth.
It also comes with an onsen egg to dip your meat in, which we recommend!
Tempura Udon
An a la carte item aside from the lunch set you can consider is the Tempura Udon ($32), served with two tiger prawn tempura.
The noodles were chewy and bouncy, served in a savoury and comforting broth.
We cracked the onsen egg into the soup and it add an extra oomp plus the sweetness from the fresh veggies.
Miso Cod Fish
One of our highlights for the meal is the Miso Cod Fish ($35), featuring a thick slab of cod grilled til golden.
The meat was extremely tender and juicy, with a deep umami from the miso and sweetness from the caramelisation!
We think this would go great with rice and miso soup.
Seasonal Promotions & New Additions
Hanare By Takayama offers seasonal menu items and this round, its Japanese Tottori Snow Crab!
You can enjoy it in three preparations. The first is the signature style Tottori Snow Crab Kamameshi ($55), with snow crab flesh served on a bed of steamed rice.
There’s also the Tottori Snow Crab Gratin ($28) with potato and the Tottori Snow Crab Chawanmushi ($16)
They also offer an updated Course Dinner Set Menu, including options like Griled Salmon Belly, a choice of their Kamameshi and desserts.
