Hakka Yu is a leader in Hakka Cuisine, and they focus on hearty, home-style Hakka cooking.
They have over 80 outlets in China and their new opening in JEM is their third outlet in Singapore!
Hakka Yu Menu
The dishes are made using traditional Hakka recipes with Cantonese flavours.
They’re prepared fresh daily to capture the authentic aromas and flavours.
Highlights include the signature Hakka Salt-Baked Chicken ($18.8 for half, $37.6 for whole) and the Hakka Stuffed Tofu ($12.8), which were recognised as intangible cultural heritages.
There are also other unique dishes like Steamed Pork Ribs With Pumpkin ($14.8) and Sweet And Spicy Chrysanthemum Fish ($22.8).
What We Tried
The Hakka Salt-Baked Chicken ($18.8 for half, $37.6 for whole) was undoubtedly our favourite dish.
The kampung chicken is marinated in herbs and spices before it gets covered in salt prior to baking, and is baked fresh twice a day to ensure customers enjoy it at its best.
It was flavourful and tender, pairing well with the chilli sauce. We enjoyed every bite!
The Hakka Stuffed Tofu ($12.8) is a classic Hakka dish.
The beancurd was silky yet firm, with a nice texture from the minced pork and fish stuffing.
The dish was extra satisfying with the generous portion of sauce and soybeans.
The Cantonese Char Siu ($16.8) was a clear standout.
The meat was soft and tender with crisp edges, making each bite satisfying.
Each slice was coated with a generous amount of sweet sauce which had a good balance of sweet and salty.
The Claypot Braised Eggplant ($12.8) looks unassuming, but had a bold flavour and was really tasty!
It was soft and flavourful and went so well with the Traditional Cantonese Claypot Rice With Cured Meats ($13.8).
The rice had a slight smoky flavour and crispy bits of rice (which is the best part).
The cured meats played a big part in bringing the whole dish together, with extra flavour!
The Hakka Green Kueh ($6.8) had a really soft and chewy texture which we enjoyed, but had a strong herbaceous flavour since it was made from mugwort.
It’s an acquired taste that is sure to have a fanbase of its own.
The Hakka Traditional Pork Soup ($5.8) was a comforting bowl of soup but didn’t impress us.
It was pretty oily, and we wish it had a stronger flavour.
Hakka Restaurant In JEM
Overall, it was an enjoyable meal with comforting flavours and well-executed dishes.
