Coexist Coffee Co. has opened its 3rd outlet over at the Lifelong Learning Institute. Their first outlet at Hillview captured the attention of Singaporeans with its unique red and white interior. The second outlet at Keong Saik is both a coffee house and a bar, and now, the third outlet at Paya Lebar continues to serve both aesthetics and good food.
All within a span of less than a year.
Korea Warehouse Cafe Vibes
With a concept of wanting patrons to experience a walk in the park during fall, the outlet at Lifelong Learning Institute is decorated with lalangs, streetlamps and cute directional signs.
The 85-seater cafe boasts a huge space, with a ceiling height that screamed Korea warehouse cafe vibes. While it may not be as huge as cafes like Forest Outings in Ilsan, a cafe this size is pretty rare in Singapore.
Decorated in monochrome and metallic interior elements, we can say that Coexist Coffee went for a more sleek and modern vibe this time. Some of the seats are surrounded by black gravel, which further enhances the ‘walk in the park’ vibe. Reminds us abit of Jeju too.
There are also counter seats, outdoor seats, and a small section on the 2nd floor (okay lah, a mezzanine area). With huge glass windows, you can expect quite a bit of natural lighting during the day.
The space is a micro-roastery, so you can spot a coffee roasting unit right behind the coffee counter.
Menu at Coexist Coffee LLI
The menu here is extensive, with items for Brunch, Sandwiches, Pasta, Mains, Pizza, Desserts and sides for sharing. To name a few, they have items like Salmon Toast ($20), Pasta Genovese ($20), Steak Frites ($36), Tater Tots ($12), Chicken Lemak Pizza ($20) and Buffalo Style Wings ($18).
For drinks, you can expect espresso-based beverages like White ($5), Ice Drip ($7.5) and tasting flights. For non-coffee drinkers, they have an array of teas like Matcha ($5.5) and Peppermint ($7).
To make your brunch a little more special, you can also opt for a range of Cocktails ($18) or beers like Hoegaarden White/Rosee ($15/pint).
Dirty Tots
Starting off with some dishes to share, we had the Dirty Tots ($16) which are Tater Tots topped with minced braised pork. This was an interesting take on tater tots, with the minced braised pork adding a tinge of Taiwanese lu rou fan feels to the dish.
If you’re not a fan of having your tater tots drenched with sauce, they do sell the original Tater Tots at $12.
Brussell Sprouts
Another item to share among friends is the Brussell Sprout ($16) dish. This was one of our favourite items of the day! The baked Brussell sprouts came tossed in a sriracha mayo sauce that made the whole dish a little spicy and creamy which helped to offset the bitterness.
Carrot Cake Fries
Coexist’s take on the popular hawker dish comes in the form of Carrot Cake Fries ($14), drizzled with some sambal mayo and topped with dehydrated pickled radish. Texture-wise, we loved how it was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.
Definitely more interesting than spam fries.
Ebiko Linguine
If you’re planning on a visit to Coexist Coffee’s LLI outlet, we highly recommend getting the Ebiko Linguine ($24). This dish is one of their signature menu items and is made using an 80% reduced prawn stock with no added salt.
There was a deep prawn flavour, and every strand of the linguine was coated with umami flavours. The grilled prawns were also huge, with a nice lingering smoky flavour from the grill.
Grilled Cheese Sandwich
The Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($18) uses 3 different types of cheese: Pepper Jack, Colby Jack and Mozzarella for that extra bump of cheesiness. It also came with a side of tomato soup, which one can choose to dip the chargrilled sandwich into, or to enjoy as a side.
Mushroom Rigatoni
For those who want a meatless option, opt for the Mushroom Rigatoni ($20) that’s made using a medley of mushrooms, garlic and white wine.
Squid Ink Risotto
You may recall Coexist Coffee at Hillview having the Squid Ink Fried Rice, well, here, they have a Squid Ink Risotto ($28). Inside it, you’ll find crab meat, firefly squid and hae bee hiam brought together by a pitch-black squid ink sauce.
The seafood flavour for this dish is really strong, so for those who don’t like seafood, you recommend trying something else instead.
Desserts at Coexist Coffee Lifelong Learning Institute
There are a couple of desserts to choose from at Coexist LLI, but our favourite was the Melona ($12). A dessert made using yoghurt mousse, melon ice cream, pickled melon and a slice of prosciutto.
The Houjicha swiss roll ($6) came close with its soft and creamy textures and deep houjicha flavour. Unfortunately, due to the strong tea flavour, the sweet potato layer was barely noticeable.
Other desserts include items like Bellini ($10), a white peach mousse and champagne jelly dish, as well as a Pina Colada ($10), a dish with tropical coconut and pineapple elements.
Aesthetic Cafe in the East
Coexist continues to amaze us with their interiors, with each outlet having a different aesthetic. The cafe is a short walk away from the crowded PLQ area and makes a great spot for brunch and dinner.
