Upper Thomson is littered with cafes and eateries, and here’s an interesting new one to try! BokK is a new Korean fried chicken joint offering freshly-fried chicken from $10.
Humble & Simple
The store is located at 183 Longhaus, right beside State of Affairs. It’s a small and quaint joint with seating on the first and second floor.
The kitchen is run by only two people and they freshly-fry every batch of chicken, so expect to wait about 15 minutes for your order.
BokK Menu
The menu is slim. There are only three flavours of fried chicken: Original, Soy Garlic and Yangnyeom.
You can get them in 2 Piece ($10) or 3 Piece ($15) variations, with options to make it a meal with fries and Drink (add on $3) or a Drink (add on $13).
They also have 8-Piece Trays with Mixed ($38), Legs ($40) and Breasts ($38).
We tried all three flavours. The Original was well-done! It had a crunchy exterior, super juicy chicken and no oiliness.
We feel that original chicken should be able to carry without sauce, but the meat could do with more seasoning as it lacked flavour on its own.
Between the two sauced variations, the Soy Garlic stood out more.
It leaned toward sweet with a notable garlic flavour, though some might prefer a more savoury profile.
We didn’t enjoy the Yangnyeom as it had a strong ginger taste that overwhelmed the other flavours.
However, the chicken stayed crisp even being doused in sauce, which we enjoyed.
The side of pickled radish had a pleasant citrus tang from yuzu, which cut through the oiliness well!
Their fries were also surprisingly well-fried, reminiscent of a popular American fried chicken chain.
Korean Fried Chicken In Upper Thomson
Our verdict? Worth the try. BokK offers a compelling Korean fried chicken in the area at decent prices. While it’s not mind-blowing, it’s well-executed, freshly fried chicken for under $20 and little to complain about!
