Covering 6,000 sq. ft worth of space at the Capitol Singapore, Am I Addicted is both a pottery studio and a Korean vegetarian cafe.
Pottery Classes by Professionals
It was interesting to see a space like this hidden in the city, making pottery much more available to the masses. Am I Addicted has open classes you can opt from, with the standard class priced at $80/pax. It consists of a wheel throwing class and a handbuilding class, which take around 2 hr each.
For those who are busier, you can opt for the Quick Wheel Throwing Trial Class instead, which gives you a quick but effective way to experience wheel throwing. It takes only an hour, and you can make up to 1-2 pieces to bring home.
Our instructor for the day was Kester, who has been doing ceramics for close to 7 years. After we placed our belongings in the lockers provided and put on our aprons, we were ready to mould some clay!
It was pretty much a follow what the instructor says session but being able to dive right into it was an exciting experience. While wheel throwing seemed like an easy thing, it was quite difficult having to control the angle and strength of how you use your palms.
Be prepared to get your hands dirty and get creative!
Vegetarian Korean Cafe in Singapore
Once you’re done with your pottery lesson, you can head over next door to Am I Addicted’s Korean Vegetarian Cafe for a quick recharge! The space is sleek and modern and is decorated with ceramics.
We loved how there was a bell buzzer at the table, which is a very Korean thing.
Menu at Am I Addicted Cafe
Unlike most cafes that have quite a number of espresso-based drinks, Am I Addicted only has Cold Brew and Drip Coffee. However, they do have an interesting Ginseng range which has items like Ginseng Milk Tea ($8-$8.5), Ginseng Ade ($10) and Ginseng Americano ($8-$8.5).
They also have Strawberry Ade ($6.9), Strawberry Milkshake ($7.9) and Tomato Basil Ade ($7.5) that are made using their handmade Chung, a kind of preserved puree made using fresh fruits and sugar.
For mains, indulge in items like Cucurbita Muesli ($18) and Jardin Bibimbap ($20). They also have sides for sharing like Konjac Fish Fingies ($15) and Hooked on Gochujang Fries ($8).
Despite being a vegetarian cafe, they do have a fair share of menu items that are vegan (or can be made vegan).
Twigim Tofu Sticks
To start things off, we had the Twigim Tofu Sticks ($12), which were tofu sticks glazed in a Korean style special sauce made using onion, garlic, chilli and soy sauce. There was a hint of smokiness, and we thought the sauce was pretty refreshing.
Doenjang Truffle Risotto
The Doenjang Truffle Risotto ($25) was our favourite dish for the day, not just in terms of flavour but presentation as well. We loved how the staff checked if it was okay for the dish to come with an egg as a vegan option was available for this as well.
Instead of rice, they used barley for the base which made the dish healthier. The texture was smooth and there wasn’t a tinge of toughness to each barley grain.
There was also a nice truffle flavour that didn’t overwhelm the taste buds, which paired well with the earthiness of the mushrooms. Overall, it was a creamy dish that we couldn’t get enough of!
Grilled Cheese Kimchi Sandwich
The Grilled Cheese Kimchi Sandwich ($16) had crispy textures and was made using vegan cheese. With the kimchi and toasted bread, the overall texture of the dish was crispy, and we thought a slice of tofu in between the bread would have elevated the dish.
Strawberry Chung Milkshake
Made using handmade chung, the Strawberry Chung Milkshake ($7.9) looked exactly like those home cafe drinks you would see on social media. With a chocolate drizzle on the outside, the drink might get a bit messy.
The strawberry bits in the drink were sweet and overall, the drink had a pleasant, natural strawberry fragrance.
Flower Ade
The flower ade was a refreshing and fizzy drink made using blue pea flower. There was a tinge of sweetness to the drink, almost like those childhood dolphin jellies we used to eat.
Ceramic Studio in Town
With the studio’s convenient location right next to City Hall MRT Station, there’s no need to travel far to experience pottery first-hand! Apart from open classes, you can also use the space & tools by the hour with their open studio prices.
