Menya Kokoro is known for their mazesoba, a dry-tossed Japanese noodle dish. They have released two new exclusive ramen items with unique eating styles – Iekei Ramen and Lava Ramen.
Menya Kokoro New Menu Items
The two items are the Iekei Ramen and Lava Ramen, each with a different flavour profile.
The Iekei Ramen ($15.80 for Regular, $17.80 for Large) features a rich tonkatsu-based broth and Menya Kokoro’s housemade wholewheat noodles. You can enjoy this ramen in three ways: on its own; with the provided side of rice and seaweed and with their spicy doubanjiang sauce (fermented bean paste).
The broth was thick and coated their chewy noodles, complete with a deep umami flavour. We enjoyed eating this with rice too! The broth was similar to a gravy and paired well with the savoury seaweed. If you are someone who enjoys maximising your ramen broth, this method is for you.
For a spicy kick, add some of the miso-based doubanjiang! It has a mild spice with a slight acidity that cuts through the fattiness of the ramen and is a great way to change up the flavours while eating.
On the other hand, their Lava Ramen ($16.30 for Regular, $18.30 for Large) is designed for meat lovers. The dish features a pile of fatty beef or pork in a red spicy miso tonkatsu broth, served with a golden onsen egg.
The spice from the broth is similar to that of Sichuan mala with a numbing sensation, great for spice lovers. The combination of tender, fatty meat with the spicy rich broth and housemade noodles is sure to satisfy.
