Tom’s Palette has shifted over to a new home along Middle Rd, just a stone’s throw away from their previous location at Shaw Tower. The 2005-established gelato shop is a familiar name among Singaporeans with its unique flavours.
Unique Flavours at Tom’s Palette
Anytime you visit, Tom’s Palette has 27 flavours for you to choose from, with more than half of the flavours changing every now and then. Fun fact: They’ve nearly churned out more than 190 flavours since their inception.
6 of the signature flavours at Tom’s Palette are available every day, namely Chocolate Sorbet, Granny’s Favourite (chocolate malt, cookie dough and chocolate chips), Rum & Raisin, Salted Caramel Cheesecake, Salted Egg Yolk, and Yuzu. The rest of their flavours rotate on a regular basis so that patrons will always have new and exciting options to try.
Some of the more unique flavours they’ve made till date are Nasi Lemak, Chicken in a Biscuit, Chee Cheong Fun, and Chocolate Mala.
Their gelato is also lower in sugar compared to other brands and is made with fresh ingredients without artificial additives like flavourings or stabilisers.
A small cup goes for $4, while a medium cup goes for $5. If you prefer your ice cream on a cone, you can have a single scoop for $5 or a double scoop for $7.70. For those who wish to enjoy the cold, sweet scoops at home, you can buy your favourite ice cream flavours by the tub as well. ($18 for regular flavours, $21 for premium flavours)
Menu at Tom’s Palette
Besides the usual scoops of gelato, you can find waffles, affogatos and even teaffogatos here as well. For those who wish to enjoy the cold, sweet scoops at home, they have takeaway tubs available too!
Brownie Waffles with Gelato
The Brownie Waffles are priced at $7.50 and you can choose to add up to 2 scoops of their gelato ($4/scoop). It comes with strawberries and oreo crumbs, 2 free toppings and 1 sauce.
We chose Coconut flakes and Coconut Crisps to go with our brownie waffles along with their Thai Milk Tea and Matcha gelato.
The brownie waffles had a nice chocolate flavour to them, with the exterior tasting like crispy brownie edges. They also had a similar texture to brownies, crumbling easily when you cut into them. As for the gelatos, they were really fragrant. The matcha one is made using Matchaya’s matcha powder.
Teaffogato
While we’re familiar with affogatos, Tom’s Palette has a tea version of it known as Teaffogato ($7.5). Instead of the usual espresso shot, they replace it with a cold-brewed tea.
Tom’s Palette highly recommends the fruity flavours for the Teaffogato, so we went for the Yuzu gelato. There’s also a brown sugar blondie right below the scoop of yuzu, which was pretty tough but still undergoing some experimentation.
We thought the Tie Guan Yin tea went really well with the Yuzu gelato’s tartness and refreshing flavours.
Salted Egg Flavoured Gelato with Cone
One of the flavours we had to try was the salted egg gelato. We paired it with a cone ($5 single scoop, $7.7 double scoop), which was infused with Masala spice. The salted egg gelato had such a smooth texture, and is made using actual salted egg from Vietnam. We could really taste the saltiness, especially towards the end.
White Chocolate Nori & Summerberries
The combination of seaweed and white chocolate might sound weird, but the result was a burst of umami flavours. It contains white chocolate almonds which help add a satisfying crunch to the gelato.
For those who want something refreshing on a hot day, the summerberries flavour is one of your best bets. It was fruity, tangy with a pinch of sourness that lived up to its name of summer.
Delivery
If you want to enjoy Tom’s Palette’s signature flavours but are hesitant to make the commute down to their outlet, delivery services are available to have their ice cream tubs delivered to you at your convenience.
Delivery time slots are scheduled between 12pm and 5pm on Fridays, and orders $54 and above can enjoy free delivery, while orders below $54 will be delivered at a cost of $10. Be sure to give at least 2 days notice for them to prepare your orders.
Ice-Cream Making Classes
Here’s something fun and unique that you might not find at every gelato cafe – a class on how to make your very own ice-cream! A two-hour session for 2 is priced at $140, with participants getting to enjoy unlimited servings of ice-cream from the shop throughout the duration of the class, as well as 10% off waffles and ice cream tubs on the day of the class.
