There are a slew of famous Korean brands setting up shop in Singapore and Song Gye Ok (송게옥) is one of them! The popular chicken K-BBQ brand from Seoul is opening in Telok Ayer from 5 June 2025.
Direct From Korea
The interior boasts a moody, full wood design with Hanok pavilion-esque decor brought in directly from Korea! Every table has a charcoal grill with a dedicated vacuum to suction the smoke.
We’ve visited an actual Song Gye Ok branch in Seoul and this is 90% similar! Down to the cutlery, plating and dipping sauces (more on that later).
Song Gye Ok Singapore Menu
The menu is split into lunch and dinner, with the chicken K-BBQ only for dinner. Its not halal certified but they do not use pork or lard.
The lunch time offerings focus on samgyetang flavours like Perilla Seed ($28) and Collagen ($28). There’s a lunch set ($34) that includes an appetizer and homemade tofu ice cream.
A Song Gye Ok special only in Singapore is the Truffle Samgyetang ($34) with freshly shaved truffle!
There’s also kalguksu, including Hangover Kalguksu ($22) and a Bajirak Kalguksu ($26) with clams.
The dinner menu features the SGO Signature Grill Platter ($98) with cuts like thigh, gizzard and softbone. The side selection ranges from Jidori Udon ($24) with Jidori chicken to the SGO Signature Doenjang Stew ($24).
A star item is their Earl Grey Highball ($14) with earl grey gin, alongside other drinks like Jijiangsu Cameo Makgeolli ($32) and the non-alcoholic Nurungji Sikhye ($5).
SGO Signature Grill Platter
The grill platter ($98) came with six cuts of chicken: boneless neck fillet, gizzard, heart, softbone, thigh and tenders. The presentation was almost exactly the same as our time in Korea!
We were impressed by the cleanliness of the offal cuts, with a sweet finish and smokeiness from the charcoal grill.
They provide six dipping condiments ranging from salt to sriracha mayo so you can customise the flavour of your meats. Of the regular cuts, the neck fillet was our favourite! It was tender and flavourful.
The simple cuts like chicken tender were also well-prepared. We recommend enjoying the it with their seasoned garlic and pickled chillis for an extra kick.
The thigh was pre-grilled then finished at the table, providing a crispier skin. These were juicy but felt plain on their own so the sauces definitely helped!
Truffle Samgyetang
The Truffle Samgyetang ($34) exceeded our expectations. First, truffle is freshly shaved at your table for that extra pizzaz.
The broth was thick from a collagen base, perfumed with a rich truffle flavour that wasn’t too overpowering. It was indulgent and balanced!
It almost turned into a risotto when we mixed the glutinous rice into the soup, creating a satisfying bowl.
Sides
A special item is the Uiseong Garlic Fried Rice ($20), from the famous garlic-producing region of Uiseong.
This was served with fried garlic chips and torched cheese, but we felt the rice was too separate and hard.
The same was true for the Grilled Rice Balls ($8). We enjoyed the caramelised soy sauce and savoury seaweed, but definitely needed a softer texture.
We liked the Bibim Noodles ($24) with a generous topping of crunchy vegetables and savoury chicken mince; it made for a cool, refreshing break between bites of chicken.
They also had a Minari Watersnail Salad ($18), something we don’t see often in BBQ restaurants. This was tangy and crunchy, with the sea snails adding more texture than taste.
A standout item is the SGO Signature Deonjang Stew ($24). Despite its humble appearance, this stew was packed with umami and a slight kick! It would go perfectly with rice.
Earl Grey Highball
The Earl Grey Highball ($14) was served in a full pint glass so there’s definitely enough nurse through your meal.
It was sweet with a slight medicinal taste, but overall still a good accompaniment to the grilled meats.
Chicken Korean BBQ In Singapore
Overall, the chicken quality at Song Gye Ok was high, and the charcoal provided a pleasant flavour. If you’re looking for a lighter protein alternative to the usual pork K-BBQ, you can shortlist this.
