Popular Kakigori brand, Sakanoue, has previously done two pop-ups in Singapore and they have attracted quite a crowd. Good news for those who love their kakigoris, the brand has found a permanent home in Singapore.
Located within Drips Bakery Cafe in Tiong Bahru, Sakanoue will be serving 6 versions of their famed kakigori.
Japanese Kakigori in Singapore
Sakanoue also marks the first kakigori brand in Singapore to use premium imported Japanese ice from Kuramoto Ice for the refreshing treat.
The ice blocks are made using a slow freezing process that takes over 72 hours, for purer, denser ice that melts slower than standard ice. The ice block is constantly agitated as it freezes, eliminating micro air bubbles in the ice and impurities such as minerals are not captured in the final crystal-clear block.
At the cafe along Tiong Poh road, you’ll find a Singapore exclusive and five other bestselling kakigori flavours.
Sakanoue Singapore Review
All of the kakigori served here comprises four layers of sauce and toppings. One thing’s for sure; you’ll never be caught having just plain ice. Each scoop is going to be filled with some sort of sauce or topping.

The Singapore Exclusive menu item is a Blackforest Kakigori ($19.80) which contains alcohol. The cherry brandy liqueur is served on the side, so add accordingly to how strong you want it to be.
Inside, you’ll find brandied cherries, chocolate sauce, cream cheese, tea caramel sauce and cinnamon crumble cookies. We really loved the addition of cookies in the kakigori to help elevate the dessert in terms of texture.
It’s a very chocolate-forward dessert, so if you’re not a fan of chocolate, we would recommend getting something else.
Our favourite was the Sakanoue Berry Cute Panda Kakigori ($18), which is topped with an espuma camembert cream, decorated with chocolate bits to resemble a panda. In between the layers of ice, there’s a camembert cheese sauce, crumble cookies, raw honey from Kofu, Yamanashi, yoghurt and mixed berries.
This was so well-balanced, and not too sweet for our liking.

Honestly, the Pistachio Chocolate Kakigori ($18.80) could’ve been so much more, as the pistachio foam on top of the kakigori was really fragrant and nutty. However, the chocolate sauce from this was just too intense, overpowering the pistachio flavours.
Other flavours we didn’t manage to try include a Lemon Mascarpone Kakigori ($17.50), the Classic Strawberry Shortcake Kakigori ($17.50) and the Blazing Fire Cheese Kakigori ($19.80) which is the only kakigori that’s on the savoury side.
Do note that the kakigori is only available from 4 April 2025, daily from 1pm to 9pm, or until sold out.
