Sagye is the latest addition to the Korean food landscape in Tanjong Pagar, serving traditional Korean pot rice and BBQ.
The name ‘Sagye’ translates to ‘4 seasons’ in Korean, and true to its name, the restaurant’s menu captures the essence of each season with dishes featuring seasonal ingredients!
Homely, Cosy Ambience
When we visited Sagye, we found its space adorned with seasonal decorations. Fitting for the winter season, there are snowmen placed around the shops!
The space isn’t huge and has an interior reminiscent of traditional Korean homes. Its wooden furnishings and cosy layout created a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a meal with good company.
Sagye Menu
Sagye presents two different menus for lunch and dinner. For lunch, indulge in their Sotbap (Korean Pot Rice), available in variations like Chicken ($17.80) and Abalone ($38.80). Each serving is accompanied by a daily rotation of banchan and a soup of the day!
At night, the focus shifts to KBBQ with set menus featuring options like the Kurobuta Pork Set ($88) and the Wagyu Beef Set ($133).
Other dishes include Army Stew ($46 for reg), Tteokbokki ($28), and a selection of Fried Chicken, both boneless and bone-in, in flavours such as Soy Garlic and Honey Butter Garlic.
Korean Pot Rice
The Beef Short Rib ($32.80) at Sagye is a must-try, highly recommended for its tender texture and well-seasoned taste. The accompanying sauce gave the rice an enhanced flavour that we found to be enjoyable!
For seafood lovers, the Scallop ($28.80) is another favourite. This dish stood out with its fresh seafood and the soft, chewy texture of the scallops.
A tip for enjoying their pot rice is to avoid scraping too hard. Leave the slightly burnt rice on the sides to savour the delicious ‘nurungji’ (crispy rice) after your main meal.
Seasonal Spring Menu
They’ve recently added two new spring dishes: the Sea Bream Sotbap ($28.80) and the Webfoot Octopus Sotbap ($27.80).
The Sea Bream Sotbap offers grilled sea bream on a bed of rice, topped with stir-fried eggplant and minced meat for a healthy and hearty bite.
On the other hand, the Webfoot Octopus Sotbap features plump and juicy baby octopus coated in a spicy sauce. If you’re a fan of seafood, you’re sure to enjoy both!
KBBQ
The meats are thickly cut and the staff will assist you with cooking them. Each meat option is of high quality, with the Aged Kurobuta Pork Collar ($28) standing out as our favourite. It was tender and had a distinct, clean flavour.
For beef, we tried the Aged Wagyu Chuck Eye Roll ($52), which impressed us with its firm yet easy-to-eat texture. It boasts a robust meaty flavour, making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy bold flavours and prefer leaner meat options.
The Aged Wagyu Oyster Blade ($52) was another cut of the meat that we tried. This cut was packed with a rich, beefy flavour and offered a tender, satisfying bite.
A La Carte
One of our favourite items for the night was the Seafood Pancake ($28). It delighted us with its light and airy texture. The pancake was loaded with fresh seafood, with an enjoyable crunch!
The Steam Egg ($10) also made a great impression with its silky, fluffy texture, enhanced with bits of onion. It’s an excellent accompaniment to KBBQ!
We also tried the Sweet Corn Cheese ($12), notable for its cheesy, stretchy consistency. However, we found the dish slightly too sweet and somewhat jelak (overly rich) for our taste.
Sotbap & KBBQ in Tanjong Pagar
With so many KBBQ restaurants in Tanjong Pagar, Sagye distinguishes itself by being the first to introduce Sotbap in Singapore!
