Rise is the newest cafe to open in the Potong Pasir neighbourhood, joining popular places like Kizuna, Fuel X and 88 Chicken. Seems like Potong Pasir is on its way to becoming the next hip neighbourhood.
Instagrammable Cafe in Potong Pasir
When we visited Rise, the first thing we noticed was how the cafe stood out among the rest of the shops along the same stretch. Painted in a beautiful baby pink colour, Rise seemed like a perfect place for afternoon tea.
Space is quite limited with the cafe being able to hold less than 20 pax indoors. Outdoor seating is available, but when we visited, no one seemed to opt for those, mainly because of the hot, sweltering Singapore weather.
Looking almost too perfect were the various teacakes on display, alongside whole cakes, and pastries. The gelato section was a hit amongst those who opted for takeaway, but for customers dining in, we noticed every table had at least one instagrammable teacake.
Menu at Rise Potong Pasir
Chances are, you’ll most probably be visiting Rise for their beautiful teacakes. However, they do offer other items such as Brown Butter Waffles ($7.9), pastries like Garlic Butter and Cheese Danish, Croissants and Almond Pain au Chocolat.
Drink-wise, you can find a typical coffee menu alongside caffeine-based beverages like French Vanilla Latte ($6) and Toasted Hazelnut Latte ($6). For those who are constantly in the Xmas spirit, you can sip on their Peppermint Chocolate ($6.5).
If you want to really get a high tea experience, they also have an artisanal tea selection.
We found their coffee to be okay but could have been creamier. The Iced Yuzu Lemonade Spritzer ($6) was a lifesaver from the heat, with its refreshing and citrusy flavours.
Apple Crumble Pie Teacake
Our favourite teacake for the day was the Apple Crumble Pie Teacake ($7.20) which had all the aspects of an apple crumble. There was a lingering cinnamon fragrance with paired well with the apple chunks. It wasn’t overly sweet, which was a plus point for us.
Raspberry Lychee Rose Teacake
The Raspberry Lychee Rose Teacake ($7.20) had a rose floral fragrance, with bits of lychee hidden in between. Among the 3 teacakes that we tried, this one fared the best in terms of texture, with a slightly moist centre.
However, with its floral taste, this could be a hit or miss for most people.
Strawberry Cheesecake Teacake
Looking like it came out of a cartoon or manga was the picture-perfect Strawberry Cheesecake Teacake ($7.20). Don’t expect strong cheesecake flavours though, it felt more strawberry than cheesecake.
However, it was a pleasant teacake with lovely strawberry notes and strawberry bits inside!
Uji Matcha Tart
We also went for the Uji Matcha Tart ($7.20) which surprised us with its fragrant matcha taste. The creamy tart’s matcha flavour was nicely balanced out with some white chocolate.
Gelato
Perfect on a hot day, choose from flavours like Lemon Curd Speculoos, Blue Milk Vanilla, Shizuoka Genmaicha, Milk + Honey, Black Sesame and more! A scoop of gelato is priced at $3.9, and premium flavours cost an additional $1.
You can also opt for their Handrolled Rosemary Cone ($1.5).
We went for a scoop of White Peach Oolong, which reminded us of the POKKA bottled beverage! The peach fragrance was very prominent, but we felt that the oolong taste could have been stronger.
Cafe in Potong Pasir
Since the cafe is relatively small, do be prepared to queue, especially on weekends. If not, visiting on a weekday would be your next best option.
We learnt from the owners that they do other teacake flavours like Trio Cheese Kimchi which sounded really unique! Depending on your luck, you might get to see some other teacakes which we didn’t get to try.
