There’s just something about home-cooked fare that tugs your heartstrings. When we came across My Korean Mom’s Kimchi, a local home-based business opened by a Korean mother-son duo, we knew we had to try it out.
Dishes by Korean moms in Singapore isn’t a new thing – Wang’s Family Kitchen is one of those places that serve delicious homecooked fare at affordable prices. Korean moms know Korean food the best and the food they cook always feel straight from the heart.
My Korean Mom’s Kimchi Menu
Their menu is rather simple – you can opt for tubs of kimchi or go for their hot meals.
For their kimchi, they have the classic cabbage kimchi and cucumber kimchi. They also have a side dish, Anchovies with Peanuts and Fried Garlic in signature gochujang sauce.
For the hot meals, they have rolls of Gimbap, Spicy Chicken Katsu Bibimbap and Kimchi Fried Rice Bento.
My Korean Mom’s Kimchi Review
We decided to try their hot meals and opted for delivery. It’s a rather simple process, you simply choose what you want to order via their website, choose the date and time of delivery and make payment.
Delivery is priced at $7 islandwide, except for Sentosa, CBD/Office and Tuas areas. You can also opt for self-collection at Tampines Ave 8.
Gimbap
Made using Kokuho rice, seaweed, yellow radish, homemade burdock and other ingredients like carrots, spinach, Japanese cucumber – this roll of Gimbap is packed with ingredients directly sourced from Korea.
While Gimbap may seem like an easy dish, it takes a lot of preparation and effort. The Gimbap by My Korean Mom’s Kimchi was really tasty and reminded us of the ones you get in Korea. You can feel the definition of 엄마손맛 (son-mat: literally means the taste of mother’s hands).
Spicy Chicken Katsu Bibimbap
The bibimbap came with a piece of deep-fried spicy chicken katsu and a side of their signature handmade gochujang sauce. The miyeok seaweed is also soaked overnight in premium Korean soy sauce.
Firstly, the gochujang sauce had a nice spicy kick to it and acted as a delicious glue to bring all the ingredients in the bowl together. Each of the individual ingredients was prepared well, and the chicken katsu was crispy and tender.
We loved how the rice had a nice purple hue to it, which is probably due to the black glutinous rice. A delicious and simple meal for lunch.
Kimchi Fried Rice Bento
If you’re undecided on whether you should get their side dishes, the Kimchi Fried Rice Bento is a great choice as it comes with their cucumber kimchi and side of anchovies.
The cucumber kimchi had a satisfying crunch and had a nice spicy refreshing kick. The anchovies were marinated in their signature gochujang sauce and went amazingly well with plain rice.
They used slightly sour kimchi for the kimchi fried rice which resulted in a nice balance of tangy and savoury flavours.
You can also opt for the Spicy Chicken Katsu if you want some protein to go with your kimchi fried rice.
Authentic Korean Food Delivery in Singapore
If you’re craving for some authentic Korean food in Singapore and want to avoid the crowds, My Korean Mom’s Kimchi is a great choice. The kimchi tubs are also a great option for anyone looking to add a few side dishes to their daily meals.
