Taking over Acoustic Cafe’s previous location (now known as Acoustics Coffee Bar in Neil Road) is Monday Coffee Bar – a quaint, cozy Japanese-inspired space selling coffee and katsu sandwiches and opens at 8:30am on weekdays.
Cozy Neighbourhood Cafe in Ang Mo Kio
Monday Coffee Bar has done a pretty good job in capturing warm vibes using an interior that mainly focuses on wood. The place feels completely different than Acoustic Cafe previously, which used acoustic panels to decorate the walls.
With its location and size, Monday Coffee Bar does feel like certain cafes in Japan, those that are usually hidden in alleys and in quiet neighbourhoods. However, with its size, this does mean that seats are limited.
Menu at Monday Coffee Bar
The menu at the AMK cafe is small, with drinks such as Flat White ($4.5), Latte ($4.5), and Genmaicha Latte ($4.5). They also have a Yuzu Sencha and Momo Sencha, available in hot ($7) and cold brew ($4).
Since they are located in the heartlands, the prices tend to be on the affordable end.
Food-wise, they currently only serve 3 types of Sandos: Chicken Katsu ($6.5), Smoked Salmon ($7.5), and Miso Sweet Potato ($5.5).
Flat White
Monday Coffee Bar currently uses India single-origin beans from Dutch Colony. The Flat White ($4.5) was pretty strong and had nice nutty notes, which we liked.
Genmaicha Latte
Using genmaicha from Matchaya, the Genmaicha Latte ($4.5) had a pleasant rice puff fragrance, but we thought the overall flavour of the genmaicha could’ve been stronger. However, there wasn’t a milky aftertaste which we liked, but the nuttiness of the tea stood out.
Chicken Katsu
The Chicken Katsu Sando ($6.5) was served with crispy cabbage, oven-baked chicken katsu, and maple nut sauce. We loved the fragrance of the maple nut sauce which went well with the chicken. The bread was toasted nicely, and because the chicken was oven-baked, the overall sandwich wasn’t oily at all.
We did hope for more maple nut sauce, to improve the overall texture of the sandwich.
Japanese Cafe in Singapore
Monday Coffee Bar opens at 8:30 am in the morning, which is also great for those living nearby who want to grab a cuppa before heading to work. Otherwise, during weekdays, the cafe is a nice spot for anyone who wants to chill, read, and relax.
