The popular crab-specialty restaurant Ministry of Crab is officially in Singapore! Located in Dempsey, the restaurant serves up fresh, wild-caught Sri Lankan mud crabs air-flown 3 times a week. It’s one of only two Sri Lankan restaurants recognized on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list!
Classic Modern Interior
Ministry of Crab has a classic modern interior. Warm lighting and rich wood furnishings create a welcoming ambience. It’s a space that feels both refined and comfortable, perfect for a relaxed yet elegant dining experience.
Ministry of Crab Menu
The main star are the crabs, which you can enjoy in a variety of preparations including MOC Original Recipe Spicy Crab, Black Pepper Dashi Crab and Sri Lankan Curry Crab.
You can even choose the size of the crab, ranging from the petite ½ Kilo Crab ($75) all the way up to the Crabzilla ($350++)!
They also offer other dishes, both with and without seafood! There’s the Oyster Sixters ($40) and Clams ($20) prepared in a classic Japanese style. The menu also includes Chicken Curry Rice ($20) or opt for a lighter option with the Olive Oil & Soy Sauce Grilled Chicken ($12). Complement your meal with vegetable sides like KanKun Garlic & Egg ($12) or Button Mushrooms ($12), and top it all off with desserts like Coconut Creme Brulee ($15) or Shibuya Style French Toast ($15).
Crab Liver Pâté
The Crab Liver Pâté ($25) is served in a unique way – spread directly on the back of your hand! This creamy spread has a smooth, velvety texture that melts in your mouth. It had a rich, buttery sweetness that was perfectly balanced by a deep, savoury umami from the crab livers.
Pure Crab
We tried the female Pure Crab ($75++ for 500g), a dish that requires a pre-order 6 hours in advance. The crab is simply steamed and chilled to highlight its natural sweetness.
It comes served with three sauces – warm butter, housemade chilli vinegar and housemade calamansi ponzu.
But we think the crab doesn’t need them at all! The meat was sweet and firm, making it satisfying enough on its own. We tried a female crab (you can choose the sex of the crab) and the roe was rich and savoury.
Garlic Chilli Prawn
We also tried the Garlic Chilli Prawn ($25++, 150g). The dish featured a massive prawn drenched in a fragrant garlic chilli oil. The sauce was delicious! It was garlicky with a nice kick at the back of the throat, definitely worth scooping up with their speciality Kade bread (more on that later!).
The prawn itself was meaty and fresh, but our favourite part was the head. If you enjoy sucking on prawn heads, you’ll love this – the tomalley was rich and umami-packed!
Garlic Bread
The prawn was served with a side of toasted Garlic Bread ($7), made with a Sri Lankan street bread called Kade Paan! It had a strong garlicky flavour with a perfect texture of crispy outside and fluffy, almost chewy inside. This was perfect for soaking up all the sauces, a unique twist from the usual mantou or dipping bread.
It’s also available untoasted ($5). The servings are also huge – you get a whole loaf of bread per serving!
Garlic Chilli Crab
The Garlic Chilli Crab ($75++, 500g) offers crab in the same garlic-chilli oil! While the crab could have been infused deeper with the sauce, we still enjoyed the combination of the sweet crab meat and spicy, salty oil. It still paired well with the soft Kade bread!
Crab Chawanmushi
The Crab Chawanmushi ($15) which was served freshly steamed with chunks of crab meat nestled in a smooth and silky egg. It was topped with a crab-infused garlic chilli oil, which added an umami to the dish but didn’t overwhelm the eggy fragrance.
Coconut Crème Brûlée
This Coconut Crème Brûlée ($15) was the perfect end to the meal. It came in a coconut husk, featuring a rich coconut custard. The flavour was reminiscent of kaya and the torched top added a delightful caramelised crunch. However, it can be a bit heavy after a while and we recommend sharing it with friends!
Sri Lankan Crab In Singapore
Ministry of Crab provides an elevated crab-eating experience, from the cosy ambience to the quality crabs they use! It’s a good spot for a special occasion or even intimate family gatherings.
