Known for their pastries, Le Matin Patisserie is opened by Chef Mohamed Al-Matin, who has worked at well-known establishments such as Noma and Restaurant Andre. Their Raeburn Park location is closed for walk-ins, but you can now find them at 77 Robinson Road and Paragon.
Le Matin 77 Robinson Road
While their Raeburn Park outlet was more rustic, the cafe over at 77 Robinson Road is the complete opposite. Sporting a more modern look with lots of seating, you can now enjoy their pastries in an air-conditioned space.
At the 77 Robinson Le Matin outlet, you will be able to find a range of their pastries, as well as Breakfast Cakes, a new range of individually sized Petit Gateaux that resemble breakfast dishes. The breakfast cakes are exclusive to the 77 Robinson outlet.
Over at Porcelain Origins, Paragon, you can find a high tea set that features mini versions of their pastries.
Menu at Le Matin Patisserie 77 Robinson
When we visited during their soft opening, we spotted the classic Kouign Amann ($7.50), which is one of our favourite items from Le Matin. Alongside were items like the Wagyu & Bone Marrow Sausage Roll ($15), Ox Tongue & Cheese Croissant Panini ($17), and Escargot Escargot ($13) which were featured in their online boxes previously.
The new items were the Granola Bowl ($12), Avo on Toast ($12), and Pancake Stack ($13) which are cold desserts that are shaped after some of our favourite breakfast items.
Drinks-wise, you have Bottled Brews and some of the more usual espresso-based drinks like White ($5) and Mocha ($6.50). From what we know, they are currently using Ethiopian beans but might be switching to something with a heavier body soon.
They also have Bottled Kombucha ($9) which comes in 3 unique flavours: Rose & Red Gooseberry, Whitecurrant & Spruce plus Saffron & Sweet Potato.
Avo on Toast
Coming in a cute toast shape, the Avo on Toast breakfast cake is said to resemble a kaya toast. At the bottom is a grilled pecan financier “toast”, stacked with avocado mousse and sourdough creameux finished with a shaving of brown cheese and vegemite dust.
If you like cheesecake, the Avo on Toast is a great option to go for.
Pancake Stack
Looking exactly like a stack of pancakes, this is actually a stack of vanilla cheesecake souffle with layers of wild berry jam and vanilla chantilly finished with maple gel. What we thought was just a simple slab of butter turned out to be popcorn butter!
While this reminded us of the comfort of a pancake stack, we thought it was still pretty pricey and might just opt for their pastries instead.
Smoked Cruffin
One such pastry would be the Smoked Cruffin ($9). Filled with applewood smoked vanilla custard and topped with a charred eucalyptus meringue, the Smoked Cruffin tasted like an Australian BBQ with the first bite. It’s sweet, savoury, and smokey at the same time – a very interesting pastry!
Croissant Amazake Soft Serve with Croissant Cone
Previously available at their Raeburn Park outlet, you can also get Croissant Amazake Soft Serve either in a Cup ($6.50), Affogato ($9), or a Croissant Cone ($11) at the 77 Robinson cafe. Amazake is traditionally made by fermenting rice with koji overnight. However, here at Le Matin, they use croissants instead of rice to produce a decadent yet tangy ice cream.
We opted for the Croissant Cone, which came with the Croissant Amazake Soft Serve, a croissant chip, and flakes finished with a sprinkle of roasted koji and malt. It was an interesting flavour, but we did find it to be on the sweet side and would recommend going for the affogato as the bitterness from the shot of espresso would help to balance out the flavours.

With the gradual return to working from the office, Le Matin Patisserie’s new location in the CBD will certainly be met with much joy for those working nearby. The space is also great for a quick tea break or even an early breakfast since they open from 8.30am.
