With a never-ending list of bubble tea brands, Taiwanese Bubble Tea chain, Ji Long Tang aka. JLD Dragon is the newest brand to hit our shores. Ji Long Tang started operations in 2018 but has since gained a huge following for its brown sugar milk with boba and cream.
Before this, Singaporeans could only try Ji Long Tang in Johor Bahru.
Located at Waterway Point & Star Vista
Currently, Ji Long Tang has two outlets in Singapore, with the third outlet at Centrepoint estimated to open around April 2020.
Menu Offerings
The signature drinks from Ji Long Tang are from their Milk Series:
- Brown Sugar Milk ($5.90 Hot, $5.30 Cold)
- Brown Sugar Milk with Tapioca Boba ($5.90 Hot, $5.30 Cold)
- Highly Recommended: Brown Sugar Milk with Tapioca Boba and Cream ($5.90 Hot, $5.30 Cold)
While we are unsure as to why the prices for all the drinks are similar, we suggest going for the one with boba and cream.
Ji Long Tang also has a Tea Series, Latte Series and an Alishan Tea Milk Foam Series.
What’s Special?
Ji Long Tang uses a very special kind of sugar – reportedly known as the world’s healthiest brown sugar. Okinawa brown sugar is used for their drinks and is made by slowly cooking down pure sugarcane juice.
Despite it being a healthier form of sugar, it is still sugar. We recommend you to consume in moderation.
How Did Ji Long Tang Fare?
There’s no doubt in calling their Brown Sugar Milk a signature drink because it stood out the most to us.
The fragrance of the brown sugar was not overpowered by the milk. There was a perfect balance between the milk, cream and brown sugar. Perhaps it’s because of the type of brown sugar used by Ji Long Tang, but the brown sugar was not overwhelmingly sweet.
The Tapioca Boba was chewy and had a nice texture.
Overall, we were quite impressed by the drink and wouldn’t mind one of these on a cheat day.
If you’re not a fan of brown sugar milk, the Alishan Green Tea Milk Foam ($5.90) is a great alternative. The smooth tea coupled with the milk foam is a great combination.
Look Forward To
While Ji Long Tang is a strong competitor in terms of brown sugar milk, we heard that they will be launching a dessert menu in a few months’ time as well. This includes one of our favourites – the Orh Nee (Yam Paste).
We look forward to what JLD Dragon will further bring to this saturated market and hopefully, an extended menu/dessert menu will surprise us.
