From the team behind Le Jardin, Café De Nicole’s Flower and Under Der Linden, Ce Soir is a fine dining restaurant in Portsdown Rd serving French flavours with a modern Asian spin. Every dish is presented immaculately, with elements of flowers, freshness, and fantasy.
Fine Dining Restaurant Near one-north
Located right beside Under Der Linden, Ce Soir is housed within an old black and white colonial bungalow along Portsdown Road, which some might find slightly inaccessible. However, thanks to its location, it felt like a hidden spot and brought out the French countryside vibes more.
Inside the restaurant, there was the main dining area with 6 rounded tables and a more private dining space to the side, with a communal dining table that can sit up to 8 pax.
Each corner of the restaurant was decorated with dried flowers and arrangements, similar to the consistent flower theme from each of their establishments. The restaurant gave off modern and classy vibes.
Menu at Ce Soir
The menu at Ce Soir is inspired by the subtle intricacies of the changing of the seasons, hence the menu changes once every few months.
During our visit, they had 2 set menus for lunch: The Bloom Menu ($78) which is a 3-course menu, and The Lustre Menu ($98) which had an additional course. For dinner, they have 2 set menus as well, ranging from $148 to $188.
The meal began with a selection of bread, served with French butter, one of which was infused with spice. There was truffle bread, which was soft and fluffy on the inside, sourdough, and traditional French bread – all of which are baked in-house. We especially enjoyed the spiced butter, which reminded us slightly of cheddar cheese.
Before our first course, we were served a selection of canapes. The first was Gougeres stuffed with truffle and onion fondue, followed by a salmon roe tartlet with dill Crème Fraiche underneath topped with finger lime. Lastly, there was a charcoal and squid ink-infused honeycomb snack (the ones you often see during CNY) topped with bouffant uni and smoked eel.
The first course was a Hirasama Kingfish served with black radish, granny smith apple juice, goji berry sauce and olive oil caviar. It acted great as the first dish, hitting all the appetizing points with it being a perfect balance of sour and savoury flavours.
Following a great start was the Ora King Salmon, served with Chervil root, Maitakae mushroom and a caviar beurre blanc with salmon roe. One interesting element was the Lemongrass foam which made the flavours of the salmon stand out more.
For our main course, we were able to choose between the pork, lamb or wagyu dishes, and the service staff highly recommended the lamb or wagyu, so we went for one each.
The Lumina Lamb was served with morels, wild garlic, and carrots. Despite the amazingly tender meat and perfect cook, we still felt that the meat was slightly gamey, especially nearer to the fatty parts. For anyone who doesn’t like lamb, we would recommend going for something else instead.
As for the Yukimoro Snow Aged A4 Full Blood Wagyu, the service staff informed us that the meat has been aged for 45 days. There’s a beautiful marbling pattern to the meat, which resulted in a juicy cut. Beautiful sear on the meat as well.
Catching us by surprise was the pre-dessert, which was not indicated on the menu. A beautiful blend of floral, herby and even spicy flavours from ginger flower, shiso sorbet, lime zest and milk foam made this one of the most delicate and complicated palate cleansers we’ve had.
We’re not kidding when we say that Ce Soir’s dessert looked too pretty to eat – just look at it! Featuring the Prickly Pear fruit paired with strawberry, mascarpone cheese and almond crumble, this dessert had amazing textures, from crispy to creamy.
We ended the meal with some petit fours, such as French madeleine with lemon zest and Earl grey lavender macarons.
French Fine Dining Restaurant in Singapore
Ce Soir was a nice escape from city life, and we thoroughly enjoyed how each dish was served with a small floral element, keeping in theme with the restaurant. They were also plated so beautifully and delicately, which made the meal a feast for the eyes too.
