Berlin65 located in Telok Ayer is Singapore’s newest culinary gem, featuring a fusion of German classics, Asian street food, and Middle Eastern flavours. Founded by Lorenz Raich and Stephan Zoisl, former collaborators at Chef’s Table, this hotspot offers a fusion menu that tells the story of Berlin.
Cosy Ambience
They import their furniture and decorative items from Berlin, offering a 40-seat cozy, casual, and free-spirited dining experience inspired by Berlin homes.
Highlighting Berlin’s vibrant cultural Landscape – a sleek, grey-toned wall is adorned with graffiti by the artist Ceno2, which adds a special touch. What makes it even more special is their open kitchen concept, allowing diners to witness the team working their magic in the kitchen!
Berlin65 Menu
They offered an extensive range of menu items, from German classics and Asian street food to Middle Eastern dishes. However, in line with their restaurant name, Berlin signatures are a must, which include the likes of the Berliner Buletten ($24) and The 1973 Berlin Original ($18).
The restaurant also offered a diverse selection of fusion cuisines that highlight the flavours of Berlin’s 12 districts, making it an ideal spot for friends who enjoy sharing and trying different dishes! Available sharing options include Caviar Potatoes ($16) and Currywurst ($16).
Additionally, for those who prefer greens, options like the Berlin Superfood ($22) and JFK Caesar ($22) are on the menu, catering to salad enthusiasts.
Simit Bread
For starters, we enjoyed the Simit Bread ($4.50), a popular breakfast choice in Berlin Kreuzberg, generously topped with sesame seeds. It was served with a Turkish chilli tomato dip that was tangy with a subtle spicy kick, which added an extra layer of flavour to the bread.
Königsberger Klopse
The Königsberger Klopse ($16), made with tender veal and beef, was coated in a creamy white sauce with tangy capers. The sauce perfectly complemented the savory meatballs. The Capers add a briny, slightly acidic touch, enhancing the overall taste profile.
Watermelon & Cherry Tomatoes
The name of the dish says it all! This Watermelon & Cherry Tomatoes ($22) salad is a refreshing symphony for your taste buds. Juicy watermelon and vibrant cherry tomatoes offer the perfect burst of freshness, while the creamy feta cheese, fragrant basil, mint, and parsley add a satisfying depth of flavour. It’s a bowl of fresh, healthy goodness that hits just the spot.
Berlin Donner
For the Berlin Donner, we tried The Banh Mi ($18) and The 1972 Berlin Original Döner Kebab ($18). The Banh Mi packed the perfect amount of spice, and it’s worth mentioning that the meats were exceptionally well-marinated, bursting with robust flavours. For those who prefer a milder taste or aren’t as keen on spicy food, we recommend trying The 1972 Berlin Original Döner Kebab instead!
Adana Kebab
The Adana Kebab offers a choice between two types of meat, accompanied by a side of basmati rice. We tried the Mixed Beef & Lamb Adana Kebab 200G ($26), which comes with two types of dips, a creamy garlic yogurt and a tangy tomato sauce.
They offer à la carte orders for the skewer, which also come with these delicious dips as well! The creamy garlic yogurt in particular steals the show when paired with the beef!
Currywurst
The Currywurst ($22) consists of two pork sausages drowned in a flavourful homemade sauce infused with German-style curry powder, tomato paste, and ketchup. It is served with Kewpie mayo and a sprinkle of cumin and parsley, accompanied by a side of fries. Similarly, like the Adana Kebab, they also offer options for à la carte orders.
BRLO Beer
The BRLO Beer had a fruity aftertaste, with hints of fine mango lingering on the palate. Brewed in Berlin Kreuzberg by BRLO, a small craft brewery established in 2014. Fun fact: BRLO is the old Slavic name for Berlin, and mastering its pronunciation usually requires a few sips of their finely crafted brews.
Berliners
Complete your meal with Berliners ($8), round-shaped doughnuts filled with your choice of Vanilla Bean Custard, Strawberry Jam, or Apricot Jam.
