Truffle Bakery in Korea has a famous tissue bread that’s been all over social media. It’s made with thin layers of pastry that pull apart, sparking its popularity. We visited the bakery to see if it was worth the hype!
Freshly Baked Goods
The bakery in Hannam-dong spans two floors. The first floor showcases its menu of baked goods on a sleek, all-black counter.
You can watch the bakers churn out fresh trays of bread and pastries at the back.
The second-floor has seating and a barista counter. There’s a row of high chairs along the window and a few regular round tables. We liked the monochrome aesthetic!
Truffle Bakery Menu
There are sweet and savoury breads available, with their signature items being the Truffle Salted Butter Roll (4,900 won) and the famous Tissue Bread (7,500 won).
They also have sandwiches and buns like the Carrot Rappes Sandwich (8,000 won) and Chipotala Sausage Bun (8,500 won), alongside loaded focaccias and baguettes.
The sweet selection includes a Salted Caramel London Bun (5,500 won) and Truffle Cream Maritozzo (5,500 won) stuffed with sweet truffle cream.
There’s a drink menu with truffle-infused coffees like the Truffle Latte (6,000 won) and Truffle Con Panna (4,500 won)! Regular espresso-based options like the Caffe Latte (5,00 won) and Americano (5,000 won).
Non-coffee options include Yuzu Peach Tea (5,000 won) and Triple Berry Ade (7,000 won).
Bakes
We tried three breads, starting with the famous Tissue Bread (7,500 won). We see why it’s so popular! It was fun to peel away the layers.
The bread itself was also quite good, with a nice chew and strong butteriness.
The Truffle Focaccia (5,800 won) had a good texture, with the fluffy bread and bite from the mushrooms in the dough.
We think the truffle flavour could be stronger but it was notable enough to flavour the focaccia.
For sweets, we tried the Pistachio London Bun (6,500 won). It was filled with pistachio cream and a layer of raspberry compote at the bottom.
The tartness of the compote contrasted with the fragrant cream, going perfectly with the flaky sweet outer pastry. This was decadent but not too cloying, though we wish the pistachio flavour could be more prominent.
Truffle Coffee
The items that stood out the most to us were the drinks! We tried both truffle-themed coffees: Truffle Latte (6,000 won) and Truffle Con Panna (hot, 4,500 won).
Each drink was topped with a truffle cream.
The truffle added a pleasant savouriness to the cream (which was already sweet), which cut through the bitter coffee.
There wasn’t a strong or overbearing taste but a subtle truffle aftertaste. We know how weird it sounds, but it just worked!
Truffle Bakery Seoul
The bakes at Truffle Bakery did not disappoint and we were pleasantly surprised by the coffee! This would make a great starting point or reprieve if you’re exploring the Hannam-dong area.
