Fans of the beloved K-pop group BTS can now catch J-Hope’s new documentary j-hope IN THE BOX that’s now streaming on Disney+! The show shares behind-the-scenes footage of 200 days leading up to the artist’s first solo debut album Jack In The Box and his appearance at the Lollapalooza festival.
J-Hope’s Personal Story
The documentary is a little under one and a half hours but tells a compelling story of resilience, passion and a love for music. We see and learn more things about J-Hope as he navigates the path to finding his own sound.
Despite it being a solo journey, J-Hope always brings up how BTS has made an impact on his life. “I have to do something new to appreciate what I have now… Everyone knows BTS, but no one knows how J-Hope from BTS makes his music.” Throughout the documentary, fans will also be treated to cameos from his fellow BTS members and artists like ZICO and BIBI who showed up to support him.
The production process was an arduous journey as J-Hope was given free rein over the project, meaning he had to oversee all the details personally. There are moments where he is candid about the stress and pressure, many times contemplating if he’s ‘bitten off more than he can chew’.
“This is part of who I am, this is who J-Hope is.” The artist shares in the documentary as he talks about his creative process for the album. “I believe the setlist should represent who I am.” From musicality and creative direction to performance, the documentary provides an authentic peek into J-Hope as an artist, and more importantly, as a person.
