You probably know of the POPMART store in Plaza Singapura, offering an addictive selection of collectable figurines. Located only an escalator up is the newly opened CoPlay from ActionCity, a unique collaborative art space for local artists and figurine lovers!
An Artist Community In Singapore
Collectors’ Bazaar
The new space is split into different sections to highlight different artists and art forms, starting with the collector’s bazaar. This first space features different vendors selling pre-loved and minted Vintage toys, figurines and rare collectables!
We spotted everything from Funko Pops, Marvel figurines to mini Bearbrick keychains in a variety of colours. If you’ve been looking for that special one to complete your collection, this bazaar might help! The bazaar will happen every Saturday between 4 pm to 8 pm.
There will also be art and craft workshops hosted by local artists, where you can walk away with your own handiwork. The workshops include illustration, painting and even pottery!
Resident Artist Space
The special part of CoPlay is the dedicated space for their resident local artists, which is open to the public.
The six artists are Eric Chew (@sapientoystudio), Jeremy Tanavit (@Tanavit23), Lester Lim (@lesdoublewood), Rex Lee (@my_spacecats), Toby Tan (@tobyato) and Yang (@yangovo).
Each artist will have their own permanent booth where you can freely interact with them for their perspectives and stories. They will also host artist village events, including the launch of new figurines like ‘Elo’ by Eric Chew’s SapienToy Studio and ‘OOJA’ by Yang.
Global Artist Collaborations
That’s not all – the space also hosts and collaborated with artists around the world including Benzilla (@benzilla) from Thailand and Daytoner (@day_toner) from Canadian studio Purearts (@pureartsofficial).
This space also helps facilitate unique partnerships between artists, like the one by Proto Toyz. Proto Toyz is an initiative by artist Taketo Kobayashi (@humanoise) that helps create special art-toy models from the 2D/3D works of other artists! We found it quite cool to see how a simple drawing could translate into highly detailed figurines.
There is also an area dedicated to showcasing pop-ups and art from artists like Kin (@kin80), Emily Moh (@em_ceramic_art) and Piao Cheng Long (@piao_chenglong_art) from China. If you’re interested, there are limited-edition figurines and merchandise available!
