Situated along Peck Seah Street, The Prince (formerly Fat Prince), is a modern Arabic restaurant that immediately transports you to the Arabian sands the moment you step in.
Modern Arabic Restaurant in Singapore
The Prince shines with their contemporary homage to desert architecture with a thoughtfully executed mix of wood, earth, and sand tones. The candlelights add a mysterious, intimate vibe to the space. The Arabic house music playing in the background makes you feel like you’re not in Singapore, but in a hip establishment, somewhere in the middle of the desert.
However, from our understanding, the space has a totally different vibe during the day – think natural light and bright tones.
The Prince offers a brunch, lunch, and dinner menu, but their Karam menu is the one to go for here. This menu embraces the Arab tradition of hospitality and generosity. It is a four-course menu with a shared first course for the whole table, before being served your second course, main, and dessert individually.
However, if there’s one item you should consider from the a la carte menu, it’s the Sweet Potato Shoreek served with Fig Brown Butter. This bread tasted heavenly, and the fig brown butter had a nice tinge of sweetness which complemented well with the bread.
Karam Menu at The Prince
The Karam Menu, ranges from $78 to $98 per pax, depending on your choice of mains, and begins with a nine-dish Mezze Platter. The nine items are:
- Cashew Hummus
- Salmon Pastirma
- Pumpkin Baba Ghanouj
- Mushroom Pastilla
- Potato Croquette
- Kalamata Olives
- Levantine Pickles
- Smoked Date Butter
- Fennel Salad
Some outstanding items were the Cashew Hummus and Smoked Date Butter, which paired amazingly with the freshly baked bread (which is refillable by the way). We also enjoyed the Pumpkin Baba Ghanouj which opted for butternut squash instead of the classic eggplant.
After the Mezze Platter, indulge in the second course, the Lobster Shorbat Addas, a lentil soup with lobster meat before moving on to your mains.
For mains, pick from items like the Romanesco ($78), or the Sweet Vine Peppers ($78) to more protein-heavy dishes like the Black Hog Tomahawk ($86) or USDA Prime Rib Eye ($98).
Our favourites were the Lamb Porterhouse ($92) and Black Hog Tomahawk ($86), both of which were excellently cooked. The smoked mango served with the Black Hog Tomahawk was particularly memorable and paired amazingly with the meaty hog.
A meal is never complete without some sweets and the Karam menu ends off the entire experience with Kunafe, featuring pistachio cream and rose syrup. As someone afraid of overly sweet kunafe, The Prince’s version was pleasantly sweet and well-balanced.
Unique Dining Experience in Singapore
While Singapore is a food haven, we appreciated the entire experience The Prince offered, transporting us to the Sahara Desert, with their well-executed food items, interior, and hospitality.
