Enter a lush tropical forest tucked away on Dempsey Hill at Tanglin Gin Jungle where an exclusive dining collaboration between Tanglin Gin and Proud Potato Peeler will be happening on 21 July 2022.
For those who aren’t familiar with the name Proud Potato Peeler, he’s actually a private dining chef with over 15 years of experience who went viral on social media for his enchanting dining experiences held at his gorgeous, fairy-tale-like rooftop home in Lavender.
Here at the exclusive pop-up, you’ll find a combination of solid cocktails from Tanglin Gin and an impeccable five-coursed Mediterranean-inspired menu in a hidden oasis.
Tanglin Gin x Proud Potato Peeler
For starters, we had a Fermented Miso Pumpkin Pesto Bread, that was topped with gorgonzola, hazelnuts and wagyu. We loved the slightly crunchy exterior of the bread, paired with a cheesy and savoury combination. This was paired with a P75, which was a refreshing, fruity & floral cocktail made with Orchid Gin, lemon juice, peach liquor, and bubbly prosecco.
Next, we had Hand-Rolled Stuffed Potato Pies stuffed with scamorza and crowned with prosciutto. This came with a show, where you’ll get to see freshly shaved truffles topped onto the dish. Paired with the Tomyum, which was an interesting concoction of kaffir-infused gin, lime juice, coco cream, and ginger syrup. This was one of our favourite cocktails for the night, which felt like Bangkok in a glass.
The first main for the night was Turkish Dolma with Laksa-inspired Sauce, topped with pan-seared French prawns, citrus vinaigrette, and basil. The Turkish Dolma was an interesting mix of Mediterranean flavours coupled with a touch of Singapore thanks to the Laksa-inspired sauce. The succulent dish was paired with Jungle Juice, which consists of lemongrass, Black Powder Gin, lime juice, honey, and soda.
Another highlight for us was the Wood-fired Italian Porchetta with Cabbage, which featured crackling pork skin, melt-in-your-mouth fats, and juicy flesh paired with smoky, wood-fired cabbage, feta cheese, and toasted pine nuts. Paired with a Chrysanthemum-based Gin is Ah Ma, with elements of lemon, elderflower, honey, and soda.
There were 2 options for dessert, a lemon curd mousse, with snow puffed meringues, and biscoff crumbs, or a fudgy Juniper & chocolate terrine with citrus jam which we opted for. This was paired with the Ruby Heirlooms, a drink made of raspberry syrup, egg white, and lemon.
