Satisfy your ramen cravings with Ramen Shiba, a new ramen restaurant in West Coast Plaza! They serve up a menu of tonkotsu ramen at reasonable prices that make for a satisfying meal.
Ramen Shiba Menu
Their menu is simple but still varied, with a selection of tonkotsu ramen and a menu of sides.
Ramen Options
The tonkatsu ramen comes in three flavour variations – Original, Spicy and Black Garlic. You can customise each with a number of toppings like chashu, seaweed and flavoured eggs!
We tried their Signature Butabara Ramen with All Toppings ($19.90) and Original Tonkotsu Ramen with All Toppings ($15.90). The Signature ramen comes with a generous serving of savoury ginger stir-fried pork alongside three large slices of chashu and a flavoured egg. The ramen itself was visually appealing and you can tell how rich the broth is – look at it glistening.
The broth was thick and savoury with a robust flavour of pork, the kind that coats your lips after each sip. If you like heavier flavours, the Signature ramen is definitely for you! The stir-fried pork is seasoned with soy sauce and adds an even deeper flavour when you mix it in with the hearty broth.
The Original ramen had the same tonkotsu base without the added pork, so you can enjoy a classic tonkotsu taste. We recommend adding the chashu and flavoured egg – the chashu was surprisingly tender with great marbling!
When you order, you can customise everything including the level of saltiness and oil you want in your noodles. We tried our items at all ‘normal’ seasoning and we found it to be just right without being too cloying.
There’s also a selection of Donburi with Mentaiko Salmon ($13.90) or Chashu ($8.90) if you want to try something different!
Sides
There’s also a pretty large selection of sides, including gyoza, takoyaki and more. We tried the Pork Gyoza ($5.90 for 5 pieces), Karaage ($5.90) and Japanese Stir Fried Beansprout ($4.90).
The gyoza had a crisp outside and tender inside, going well with their vinegar dipping sauce that’s slightly spicy. The Karaage comes with 3 pieces that were crisp, juicy and well-seasoned, making for a great starter.
It’s a bit of an unusual order in a ramen restaurant, but the Japanese Stir Fried Beansprout was actually quite good! It features the local towgay fried over a high heat with pieces of pork, which added a great crunch and smokiness to our meal.
Limited Time Shiba Macaroons
For a limited time only, Ramen Shiba is offering super cute Shiba macaroons! The menu is a collaboration with local baker Sandra Bakes.
You can get them with a scoop of refreshing Hokkaido Yuzu Ice Cream ($6.90) or per piece ($4), in the flavours Lotus Buttercream or Raspberry Ganache. These were seriously too cute to eat with their little faces!
