Tucked away in Kampung Glam, OUD Restaurant is a halal restaurant specialising in wood-fired dishes! They are celebrating their first anniversary with a revamped menu that retains their signature wood grill.
Small But Cosy
The restaurant is lean but maintains a clean and cosy interior with a muted colour palette. There’s both indoor (24 pax) and outdoor seating (14 pax) making it suitable for all occasions.
You can see straight into the open kitchen where the chefs cook over a live citrus wood fire!
The team is helmed by Chef Shah Indra and Chef Mohd Ridzuan Ayob, both with experience working in Michelin-starred kitchens in France and Japan.
OUD Restaurant Menu
The menu is simple but varied. There is a selection of appetizers and starters, ranging from Truffle Pani Puri ($5/piece) and French Onion Soup ($19) to Firegrill Chicken Skewers ($26).
The star section is the selection of proteins from their woodfire grill. Options include the Argentian Ribeye ($40) and Wagyu Striploin ($68).
If you don’t fancy beef, there is the Firecoal Chicken Parmigiana ($36) with a roasted tomato sauce or the Atlantic Miso Cod Fish ($38).
For sweets, they offer a signature Karak Teh Tarik Ice Cream ($18) with a homemade waffle cone and Mango ($18), a fresh mango sorbet.
They also have a list of mocktails and non-alcoholic wines to pair with your meal!
Appetizers
The Caviar Cornets ($11/piece) featured smoked cream cheese and caviar with a popiah wrapper cone.
We liked the smokiness and creaminess of the cheese, plus the salty bite from the caviar!
The Fire Grill Unagi ($10/piece) came with crispy rice and glistening grilled eel.
The eel was tender with a housemade glaze, which was neither too sweet nor too savoury.
It was complemented by the kick from the spicy mayo and the crispiness of the rice, which made it satisfying!
If we had to recommend one appetiser, it would be Krispy Fried Cauliflower (KFC, $12).
Each morsel was coated in a salty, umami-packed breading that made it addictive!
The honey mustard drizzle provided an extra sweetness and punch to balance everything out.
OUD Fries
The OUD Fries are no ordinary fries.
Each fry is a stack of thinly sliced potatoes, taking 24 hours to prepare! They can be topped with Tuna ($6/piece), Salmon ($5.50/piece) or Beef Tartare ($5/piece).
We liked the texture of the fry with a crispy outside but fluffy centre from the layers. It had a strong and rich butter flavour too!
Of the three toppings, the Salmon stood out most with its creamy dill sauce.
Grilled Octopus
The Grilled Octopus ($26) impressed us. It was fork tender but retained some chew, infused with a smoky charcoal flavour in each bite.
The topping of spicy beef chorizo and chilli oil enhanced the seafood flavour. Made us wish we had bread to mop up everything!
Atlantic Miso Cod Fish
Our favourite was the Atlantic Miso Cod Fish ($38). The fish meat was tender and juicy, with a clean buttery taste.
It was enhanced by the savoury umami of the miso, which had been caramelised from the grill. We also noted the subtle corn fragrance from being roasted in the corn husk!
The side of pickled onions balanced the richness, making for a good pairing. This is a must order in our opinion.
Squid Ink Seafood Paella
The Squid Ink Seafood Paella ($48) was garnished with two sizeable prawns and octopus. The rice was packed with prawn flavour, though we wished it could have more bite!
Pressed Lamb Belly
The Pressed Lamb Belly ($38) was another outstanding dish. It was melt-in-your-mouth tender and had zero gaminess, with notes of cumin from the seasoning.
We recommend it with sides like the Oudfire Mushrooms ($16) and the Honey Roasted Baby Carrots ($12)! Both were well-seasoned and paired perfectly with the meat.
Grandma’s Banana Cake
We ended the meal with Grandma’s Banana Cake ($16). Something unique about this is the slice of caramelised banana peel they use as garnish!
This sits as one of the best banana cakes we’ve had. It was dense but fluffy with slightly crunchy caramelised crust.
The added caramel sauce gave a bit of bitterness to balance out the sweetness. Despite all the sugary elements, it wasn’t too sweet!
Halal Grill Restaurant In Singapore
The food at OUD Restaurant truly impressed us with its quality, preparation and flavour; we highly recommend this place for any occasion!
