Interior
The store features woven rattan accents and furniture like chairs and light fixtures.
The store design pays homage to Hainanese culture with woven rattan elements, a familiar feature in traditional Hainanese homes.
This also creates a more cosy and homely feeling.
Mr Hainan Menu
There is so much more to Hainanese cuisine than just the classic Hainanese Chicken rice!
Though the Hainan Wenchang Chicken (Half: $28.8, Whole: $52.8) is the signature, Mr Hainan also has the other 3 famous Hainan dishes; Jiaji Duck ($25.8), Threadfin With Black Bean Sauce ($29.9), and the Prosperity Pot ($14.8).
There are also other tasty and comforting dishes that truly represent Hainan, like the Haikou Beef Brisket Pot ($23.8) and Hainan Veggie Pot ($16.8).
Meats
The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the Hainan Wenchang Chicken ($28.8) and for good reason.
The chickens are free range so the meat was very juicy, tender, and flavourful! We got the half portion and absolutely devoured it.
The rice was also super fragrant because it was cooked with the chicken broth and might have just made this our favourite chicken rice!

We tried all the fish dishes: Threadfin with Black Bean Sauce ($29.9), Threadfin with Assam Sauce and Yellow Lantern Chilli Peppers ($29.9).
The fish had a very nice soft texture and paired well with the sauces. Plus it wasn’t fishy at all, which made it enjoyable even for us, who aren’t huge fans of fish.
For those with a low spice tolerance, beware of the Yellow Lantern Chilli Pepper Sauce! The spice was really intense and had us sweating after just one bite.
We preferred the Assam sauce because it had a more unique taste.
The Hainan Jiaji Duck ($25.8) is an aromatic braised duck dish but didn’t particularly stand out to us.
The meat leaned on the dryer side but the sauce helped to offset the dryness. We wish more sauce was given!
Soup & Vegetables

We sampled the Luffa And Glass Noodle In Chicken Broth ($18.8) and Hainan Prosperity Pot ($18.8).
Both were simple yet comforting dishes that reminded us of a home-cooked meal.
The soup was a nice addition to the meal but we felt that the vegetables in the Prosperity Pot could be more liberally seasoned!
