While Singapore has her fair share of gelato places, one of the most prominent names in Australia has opened in Telok Ayer. Messina is now serving up scoops of house-churned gelato to Singaporeans who want a sweet treat or a quick escape from the heat.
Quality Ingredients in Every Flavour
There’s a reason why Messina is so popular, even though the store just opened in Singapore. FYI, when we visited on a weekday at 2 pm, there was already a queue right when they opened.

The brand uses quality ingredients from their own farms (yes, they have their own farms), such as milk from their cows, and mint and hazelnuts cultivated from their farms.
It’s not just the gelato bases. The brand also includes ingredients in its gelato, such as jam, pastes, and things like chocolate chip cookies or macadamia crumbles. Most of them are made and baked in-house to ensure they have control of everything they serve.

The outlet in Singapore offers 35 permanent flavours and 5 rotating specials. Among the 35 permanent flavours, 5 of them are Singapore exclusives:
- Kaya Toast: kaya gelato with swirls of kaya jam & toasted bread chunks
- Singapore, How Are You Durian? – coconut gelato with durian jam & durian cake
- Tau Huay, Teh Tarik and a Salted Egg Yolk gelato with gula melaka caramel
Among the 35 permanent options, there are also 7 sorbet options, all of which are vegan. You can choose from flavours like Salted Coconut Mango Salsa, Pandan & Coconut, and Passionfruit.
What we loved about Messina is that everything here is the same price. Even for flavours that are usually deemed or labelled Premium or Special, like Pistachio.
One scoop costs $7.50, but the good news is that if you get more, you pay less.
Two scoops of their gelato is priced at $10, and three scoops for $12, which works out to $4 for a scoop.
They also offer 0.5L, 1L, and 1.5L tubs, which go for $30, $50 and $65 respectively. The largest tub can fit up to 5 different flavours.
What To Get At Messina Singapore
It can be quite difficult to choose what flavours to get at Messina, but thankfully, they encourage sampling, so taste to your heart’s content!
Some of our favourites include the Pistachio (a must-try!!), which is rich, nutty, and smooth, and the Macadamia Crunch, which has a really nice texture from the inclusions. If you’re not a huge pistachio fan, they have a Pistachio Praline flavour, a Flor di Latte gelato with white chocolate, pistachio fudge and pistachio praline.
Among the Singapore exclusive flavours, we really enjoyed the Tau Huay, which felt like an elevated version of a soybean milk gelato, along with the Ondeh Ondeh & Salted Egg Yolk.
Other flavours that stood out to us include the Panna Cotta w/ Fig Jam & Amaretti, Hokey Pokey, and Dulce De Leche.
Gelato Shop in Telok Ayer
Since Messina has just opened, it’s attracting quite a big crowd, so you might have to queue for a while. However, since it’s a gelato shop, the turnover rate is relatively fast if you don’t intend to dine in.
