One thing we truly miss about dining out is a good Korean BBQ. Friends gathering around the grill, the sizzling of the meat and having a shot of soju with perfectly grilled meat – ah, we’re drooling. The good news is, from 19th June onwards, you’ll be able to dine in at restaurants (max 5 pax).
While we understand that Korean BBQ and KBBQ buffets are aplenty in Singapore, some may prefer to stay home during phase 2 and are not be able to visit these restaurants to indulge in grilled samgyeopsal (pork belly) for the time being. However, with the right tools and ingredients, it’s actually quite simple to have your very own KBBQ experience at home!
Do note that some of these grills require an open fire, hence a portable stovetop would be a great option for many. If not, some of these grills work equally well with an induction cooker.
Regular Grill Pans
These regular KBBQ grill pans are the best option for families out there wanting to have a Korean BBQ experience at home. Compared to other grills in this list, they are the most economical option as well.
You can either place them on a stovetop or an induction cooker, depending on the grill you purchase. Some grills even have a small opening to remove excess oil like the ones you see at a real Korean restaurant. However, do be prepared to smell like a KBBQ restaurant after your meal.

If you are a cheese lover, pop in some mozzarella cheese and make your own cheese dip. Egg lovers, pour in a cheese and egg mixture for the perfect cheesy egg omelette to go with your KBBQ.

Infrared Grills
A lot of these grills are marketed as smokeless and hence do not leave your kitchen smelling like a barbeque pit. Infrared grills also tend to cook faster and retains more moisture during cooking. This can be a bad thing when it comes to Korean BBQ since you want your meat to have sort of a char. However, this might be a good factor when grilling marinated meats. One common brand of infrared grills is Zaigle.
Some infrared grills have rotating grill pans and seem really fancy, but they are definitely more on the pricey side compared to the other grills.
Pros: Smokeless, Smell-less
Cons: Expensive

Two-in-One Grills
One thing we love about KBBQ is how they always come with a side of hot piping soybean stew. The flavourful stew washes down all the greasiness from the meat almost like a reset button for the body to continue feasting.
The two in one grill is also perfect for those who want some hotpot to go with your grilled meat.
Pros: Able to have soup and grilled meat at the same time
Cons: May cause splatters if soup comes into contact with the oily grill

Lots of local supermarkets have started selling Korean imported products such as Cheongyang chilli peppers – a commonly seen banchan (side dish) at Korean BBQs. Make sure to get the essential side dishes for your Korean BBQ experience at home, such as kimchi, ssamjang sauce and perilla leaves.
If your local supermarket does not carry the necessary products, you can try a Korean mart nearby or simply go online to purchase some these side dishes.
