Opened by the people behind Caffeine Solutions, the new Guerilla Coffee at Suntec is a place where you can see some of the technology by Caffeine Solutions in action.
Located slightly further away from the crowded side of Suntec, shoppers can now drop by Suntec Tower 2 to enjoy a quick caffeine recharge.
Cafe with Functional Design
One quick look at Guerilla Coffee and you’ll notice that they went away from the conventional seating arrangement and opted for a more unique one. Customers can sit on the steps in pairs and enjoy a cuppa, along with a conversation.
When the Covid situation gets better, Guerilla Coffee also hopes to turn this space into a collaborative design space, where people can showcase some of their products, idea and even conduct a mini-TED talk.
There’s also a table in the middle of the cafe, decorated with growing mint leaves. If you’re thinking this is just for show, you’re wrong. Some of the drinks in Guerilla Coffee require mint and they wanted to use fresh mint for the best flavour.
They partnered with ComCrop, Singapore’s first and only commercial rooftop farming company to bring you the freshest mint!
State Of The Art Technology
One of the first things that’ll probably catch your eye when walking towards Guerilla Coffee is probably their espresso machine. The Slayer LP coffee machine has custom-made panels that change colour, like my Razer laptop keyboard.
Some other equipments are the Latte Art Factory milk foaming machine and the TONE coffee & tea brewer.
Guerilla Coffee Menu
Much like its name, the menu is focused on coffee, with drinks like Mint Mocha ($7.2/8.2), Americano ($5/6) and even a Chestnut Coffee Jelly ($9.5). They also have teas and chocolate (hot/iced) for the non-coffee drinkers.
You can choose from 3 different options for your coffee:
- Guerilla Coffee No.1 – Medium Acidity, Medium Body, Brazil & Ethiopian Origin
- Guerilla Coffee No.2 – Low Acidity, Full Body, Brazil, Yunnan & Congo Origin
- Single Origin Indonesia – Medium Bright Acidity, Full Body
The 2 guerilla coffee blends will be permanent, while the single-origin may change from time to time.
For our Iced Latte ($7), we went with the Indonesian Single Origin.
Iced Black Mint
We tried the Iced Black Mint ($7) with the No.2 coffee which was topped with fresh sprigs of mint. You will notice that the espresso goes directly into a cup with fresh mint inside as well.
This would be a great drink for mint lovers, and those seeking respite on a hot day. Immediately, you get a refreshing sensation from the mint followed by the coffee. If you like mint, a tip is to let the mint sit in the coffee for a while more for a more intense mint flavour.
Home
Under the signature menu, there’s a drink called Home ($8) that’s only available hot. This is Guerilla Coffee’s local interpretation of a latte. Made with espresso, high-quality milk, a hint of condensed milk, a dash of pepper and sea salt.
The name is inspired by the iconic song ‘Home’, as well as Singapore being home. Guerilla hopes that this will eventually be a menu commonly seen in cafes to forward SG’s coffee culture.
This was a rather interesting drink, which reminded me of the traditional soft-boiled eggs you have at breakfast with its peppery notes and creamy flavours.
Pastries & More
You can get some small bites here to go with your coffee such as cookies, mini-danishes and muffins. We had the Lemon Loaf ($5.5), which had a nice punch of citrusy flavours and wasn’t too sweet.
Cafe in Suntec Tower 2
Guerilla Coffee is a nice addition to the cafe scene, especially when you know the people behind it are serious about their coffee. If you’re adventurous, do opt for the more interesting drinks such as the Iced Black Mint and Home.
