Bakery cafes in Seoul are popular, and most of them attract crowds even before opening. Ginger Bear in Songridan-gil is no exception, with people coming from all over the world queuing up for their pies even before their 12 p.m. opening time.
Savoury Meat Pies in Seoul
The cafe adopts a vintage European interior with a major cottage core vibe. There’s plenty of seating here, but when we arrived right when they opened, it was quite chaotic as we had to grab our own seats.
There are a couple of alfresco seats, but they are definitely suited for better weather days.
Their pies, both sweet and savoury, are on display, and you basically grab what you want on a tray. They’ve also included the English names for the pies on display, so you’ll have no problem deciding what to get.
Ginger Bear Menu
For savoury options, we have the Classic Meat Pie (8,500won), Potato Sausage Pie (7,500won), Spicy Chicken Pie (8,500won), Creamy Chicken and Mushroom Pie (8,000won) and even a Mac and Cheese Ragout Pie (8,500won).
It’s not limited to pies as you can find items like Plain Pretzels (3,500won), Spinach Goat Cheese Quiche (7,000won) and even a Bell Pepper Soup (8,500won).
For sweet tooths, they have a range of pies such as Lemon Meringue (8,500won), Blueberry Cheese (8,500won), Pecan (8,000won), and Strawberry Mille Feuille (9,500won).
As for drinks, you’ll find items ranging from coffee, tea and ades.
Savoury Options
We tried the Classic Meat Pie Set (12,000won), which comes with bacon mashed potatoes, gravy sauce, and coleslaw. The pie itself had a flaky pastry crust that was buttery while the meat on the inside reminded us slightly of tteokgalbi, a Korean beef short rib patty.
Surprisingly, for a cafe known for its meat pies, we preferred the Egg Bacon Avocado Galette (7,500won) over the meat pies. Inside, a runny egg yolk coats items like bacon, tomato, and avocado, resulting in a creamy explosion paired with a buttery, flaky crust.
Sweet Pies
The Pistachio Pie (8,500won) was our favourite item from Ginger Bear, featuring a nutty and fragrant pistachio custard topped with pistachio cream. It’s very well-balanced, just the right amount of pistachio without being too cloying.
Cafe in Jamsil
Given its location in Songridan-gil, an area near Jamsil and Seokchon Lake, Ginger Bear is perfect for anyone looking to visit Lotte World or Lotte Tower. If you’re planning on visiting Seokchon Lake for cherry blossoms during spring, the cafe is also situated just a stone’s throw away.
P.s. check out the video below to see what drink we really recommend here!
