Ging Sun Ho King of Bun: Shanghai-Style Juicy Pan-Fried Pork Soup Buns In Tampines

Ging Sun Ho King of Bun in Tampines Mall, marks the Hong Kong brand’s first venture in Singapore! The brand has already made a name for itself with over 13 outlets across Hong Kong. This new outlet brings the same classic dishes like their popular pan-fried soup buns and dumplings!

Ging Sun Ho King of Bun Menu

Ging Sun Ho King of Bun offers a variety of buns and dumplings, including Signature Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings (2 pcs: $3.80, 4 pcs: $6) and Chicken and Cabbage Dumplings in Hot and Sour Soup (5 pcs: $7.80).

Their mains include Spicy Boiled Fish with Pickled Greens ($29.50) and Sichuan-Style Spicy Chicken (Half: $16). For appetisers, try the Chilled Shredded Chicken Noodles with Sesame Sauce ($7.50), while stir-fried dishes include Classic Shanghainese Stir-Fried Noodles ($12.80). 

Additionally, you can choose from Signature Pork Chop ($13) or Pickled Greens ($15.20), paired with a choice of white rice, vegetable rice, or noodles in soup for an additional $1. 

Buns & Dumplings

Signature Pan-Fried Pork Soup Bun

The Signature Pan-Fried Pork Soup Bun (3pcs, $5.80) had a crispy, golden-brown bottom that wasn’t too thick, with a balanced ratio of skin to filling.

The meat filling was typical of what you might find in a dumpling, but the flavorful broth that oozed out with each bite was the highlight. The broth was rich and savoury, with comforting umami notes that complemented the filling. The subtle, nutty aroma of black sesame rounded out the dish.

Pork and Chive Wontons in Spicy Sauce

The Pork and Chive Wontons in Spicy Sauce (8pcs,$8) featured wonton skin that was silky soft and filled with tender, well-marinated meat. While the wontons weren’t particularly spicy, they were cumin-heavy, similar to Chinese Chuan Chuan spices.

Noodles 

Chilled Noodles in Sesame Sauce

The Chilled Noodles in Sesame Sauce ($11.80) featured a generous mix of shredded chicken, ham, crab stick, carrot, and cucumber, all coated in a light and creamy sesame sauce. 

While it was light and refreshing, we found this dish underwhelming. It didn’t have a striking sesame flavour and the noodle texture wasn’t satisfying. We think using a  softer, wheat-based noodle might be a better option.

Ging Sun Ho Dan Dan Noodles 

The Ging Sun Ho Dan Dan Noodles ($9.80) offered a rich, nutty flavour from the peanut sauce with a pronounced garlicky note. The broth carried a mild heat, adding a spice without overwhelming the palate. The thin noodles were soft and absorbed the flavours well.

Rice Dishes 

Signature Pork Chop

The Signature Pork Chop ($13.80) offered a choice of white rice, vegetable rice, or noodles in soup (for an additional $1). We opted for the flavorful vegetable rice, which paired well with the pork chop. 

The rice, infused with the rich aroma of pork lard, was served alongside a generous helping of  bok choy. The pork chop featured a sweet glaze that complemented the savoury elements of the dish while maintaining a tender and succulent texture.

Drinks

Hong Kong Style Milk Tea 

The Hong Kong Style Milk Tea (M:$4, L:$5) had a strong tea aroma, though it was on the sweet side. It would have been ideal if it was made less sweet, but the tea flavour was there and still made for a satisfying drink.

Soya Milk 

The Soya Milk (M:$3.20, L:$4.20) had just the right amount of sweetness and a smooth, refreshing texture. It did not have any unpleasant grittiness.

Pan-Fried Dumpling In Singapore
