Ever heard of an Italian restaurant doing Australian flavours? Fortuna Trattoria is merging the two cuisines with their newest menu refresh, bridging classic Italian preparations with the ingredient-forward focus of Australian food.
Fortuna Trattoria New Menu
The culinary team was inspired by the vibrant city of Sydney, where Fortuna first laid its roots after the team left their hometown of Naples.
It’s coming full circle with this new menu, paying homage to the rich Aussie culinary scene right in the heart of Tanjong Pagar.
Antipasti

The entire Fortuna Trattoria menu will see new items, starting with the Antipasti.
Look forward to Croquettes ($18) stuffed with seafood and caviar, a nod to the local shellfish from the Sydney Fish Market.
The Fritto Misto ($20) features King Prawn and Calamari with herbed mayo and Vietnamese prawn shot, another call to the briny seaside offerings.

I tried the Octopus ($38), char-grilled and served on a bed of roasted potatoes with black garlic puree.
This stands as one of the best grilled octopus I’ve had so far!
The meat was knife-tender with a good bite and smokiness from the grill, complemented by the punchy garlic.
Mains

For mains, I tried the Chicken Parmigiana ($36).
While not a “traditional” Italian dish, Fortuna’s iteration was quite tasty!
The juicy fried chicken cutlet was topped with a tangy tomato sauce that cut through any oiliness – surprisingly moreish.
Their expanded options include a Maiale Pork Chop ($48) glazed with fortified masala wine and mushrooms; and Stuffed Calamero ($38) stuffed with rice instead of the traditional breadcrumbs.
Pizza & Pasta

Fortuna’s stars – the woodfried pizza and pasta – also get a refresh!
I highly recommend the Linguine ($38). This version had tomatoes and lemon zest that added freshness to the dish.
The sauce was the star for me. Rich and almost buttery with a nice brininess from the fresh clams, coasting every strand of their handmade pasta. I wished I had bread to dip it in!

There are three new pizzas, starting with the Pumpkin Feast (from $32) that features pumpkin puree and hazelnut. There’s also a Green Dream (from $30) with Italian pesto, goat cheese and pine nuts.

I was intrigued by the Cocktail Prawn (from $38) and decided to give it a try, with pink sauce, shredded lettuce and orange.
I wanted to like this but sadly I didn’t. While the crust and cheese are fantastic, the toppings just felt like a salad with thousand island dressing.
I can see the coastal inspirations in the pizza but I wish the execution could be tweaked!
Dessert

The dessert selection starts with Fried Gelato ($18), topped with copious amounts of caramel and walnuts.
While the gelato was indulgent, I found the dessert a tad plain. It’s a nice dessert though and can be shared between two or three people easily.
I really liked the Donut ($18), finished tableside with Nutella cream. The deep-fried donut was crispy and fluffy, covered in cinnamon sugar with a drizzle of Nutella and nuts.
This got a little sweet toward the end but the chocolate-hazelnut combo will always be a win for me!

While some items were a miss for me personally, Fortuna Trattoria still maintains the same quality of ingredients and Italian food preparation which is evident through their dishes.
