*Update: Clinton Street Baking Co & Restaurant is now closed.
Clinton Street Baking Co & Restaurant is not an unfamiliar name. The casual eatery comes all the way from New York, offering menu items perfect for brunch, lunch, and dinner.
Located along Purvis Street, the first thing that caught our eyes was the bright red awning with the words Clinton Street Baking Company printed on it.
When we stepped in, we noticed that the restaurant had a very warm and inviting vibe, and had a predominantly white-and-wood design, which made the atmosphere really bright and airy. We could also smell the fragrance of hot-off-the-griddle pancakes and waffles that was lingering throughout the shop.

Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter
The highlight of our visit was the pancakes with maple butter ($20) that come with either a topping of blueberries, banana walnuts, or chocolate chunks. We opted for the blueberries because well, most of the photos we saw online featured the blueberry sauce.
Unlike your Japanese pancakes that are all about fluffiness, the ones here at Clinton Street Baking Co. were flatter but slightly thicker compared to the ones you find at fast-food restaurants.
Despite its thickness, the pancakes were a terrific balance of fluffiness and not dense at all. The sweet, caramel flavour from the maple butter, the slight tartness of the blueberries, and the slight salty flavour from the pancakes that were slathered with butter made for an amazing bite, that we would surely come back for.
The Maple Butter here was worth all the calories in the world. The carefully concocted mixture of maple syrup and clarified butter is air-flown from New York, and is one of the items that patrons of Clinton Street Baking Co. adore. It went so well with the pancakes and added a nice roasted sweetness with each dip, without being too sweet or cloying. One of the best blueberry pancakes we’ve had so far!
Chicken & Waffles
Served with their signature maple butter as well, the Waffles with Fried Chicken ($21) is a classic combination. There’s also honey-Tabasco sauce drizzled over the chicken and the soft-vanilla buttermilk waffle.
The fried chicken itself was bursting with juices and well-executed. We did hope for the chicken to have been battered more evenly.
Make sure to drizzle the maple butter all over the chicken and waffle for the best experience.
House Lemonade
We paired our mains with some refreshing beverages such as the House Lemonade ($7). The drink is packed with sour, citrusy flavours and we found this on the sour side. You can ask for more ice to lessen the intensity of the sourness, but it did certainly help to wash away the greasiness.
Best Pancakes in Singapore
If you ever find yourself craving for pancakes, we will highly recommend the pancakes over at Clinton Street Baking Co. & Restaurant. This is undoubtedly one of the best pancakes we’ve had in Singapore. The maple butter was also executed well, helping to elevate the pancake experience.
