Cafe Gui has opened its second location, conveniently situated just a short walk from Maxwell MRT, offering an array of affordable Korean-Japanese fusion dishes!
Hanok-Inspired Interior
When you enter the cafe, you’re greeted by wooden structures resembling the style of traditional Korean houses. Coupled with the white aesthetic of the furnishings, it creates a minimalist and homely vibe.
You’ll find adorable cat-themed decorations throughout, from the coasters to the portraits, adding a whimsical touch to the ambience!
Cafe GUI Menu
Cafe GUI offers a Korean-Japanese fusion menu. If you have been to their Novena outlet, you will be delighted to discover new items, such as Oppa’s Beef ($28.90) and Dry Ramen available in both spicy and non-spicy versions.
The menu also features other options like the Korean Pepperoni Big Breakfast ($18.90) and Arabiki Sausage RiceBowl ($14.90).
Mains
The Dosirak RiceBox ($15.90) is a top-seller at Cafe GUI, filled with slices of spam, a sunny-side-up egg, stir-fried Kimchi Pork, and seaweed. The fun part is shaking the box vigorously to mix everything well – a delightful and interactive experience!
The dish was simple yet satisfying. The mild spiciness from the kimchi and the creamy texture imparted by the egg yolk makes for a delightful combination, though a bit more sesame oil could be added!
We also tried the Bibim Guksu ($15.90), a spicy cold noodle dish served with cucumber and kimchi, adding a nice crunch. The noodles’ springy texture was perfect, and the sauce had a balanced sweet and sour flavour, with the spiciness gradually intensifying.
Small Bites
There’s a variety of side dishes, and we got the Chicken Karaage ($8.90). The chicken was tender with a slight crispness on the outside, though we did find ourselves wishing for chunkier pieces. It pairs excellently with the mayonnaise!
Another dish worth trying is the Okonomiyaki Fries ($9.90). These fries came drizzled in okonomiyaki sauce, which was sweet and umami-loaded. Impressively, the fries retained their crispness even under the sauce.
Dessert
We highly recommend trying the Japanese Matcha Tiramisu ($12.90). This dessert had a light, airy texture, and its sweetness was perfectly balanced, making it an ideal treat to share between two people! The Hojicha Pudding ($8.90) carries a distinct Hojicha flavour that’s pleasantly distinct without being overpowering.
Drinks
For drinks, we chose the Dalgona Honeycomb Coffee ($9.90), which had a well-balanced sweetness. The coffee’s bitterness was pronounced, offering a robust flavour profile and the addition of honeycomb pieces infused the drink with a subtle caramel sweetness!
For those preferring non-coffee options, the Yuzu Soda ($5.50) is an excellent choice. This refreshing beverage had a distinct yuzu flavour, providing a delightful citrusy zest that’s both invigorating and enjoyable.
