The WAI Company is a one-stop traditional food marketplace that offers islandwide traditional food delivery in a single order.
Recently launched in Feb 2022, the online marketplace was started as an effort to preserve traditional food. The WAI Company partners with heritage brands such as popular Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh, Ah Yee’s Soon Kueh, Kim Choo Kueh Chang, 603 Tau Sar Piah, Sweetland’s Bread & Bakery, and more.
The website also has items like Peach Gum Collagen, Osmanthus Pear Collagen, and Lychee Coral Collagen from Tong Shui Place, and even the traditional ice cream bread/wafer biscuits like the ones you get from the ice-cream uncle after school!
Besides the individual items you can get from a variety of brands, The WAI Company also offers platters so you can try multiple items in one single box.
Premium Traditional Signatures’ Platter
The Premium Traditional Signatures Platter is priced at $59 and comes with:
- 4x Ang Ku Kueh from Ji Xiang AKK
- 2x Tau Sar Piahs from 603 Tau Sar Piah
- 2x Fresh Cream Cakes
- 1x Mini Orh Kueh from Ah Eng’s Orh Kueh
- 4x Assorted Kuehs from Ying Ah
As expected, the Ang Ku Kuehs from Ji Xiang did not disappoint, with the Durian MSW flavoured one being the most memorable one with its bittersweet filling. Don’t worry durian-haters, the Peanut rainbow one was equally delicious, with a generous filling to skin ratio.
The fresh cream cakes reminded us of our childhood days and tasted like the ones you get from a local neighbourhood bakery.
Another highlight for us was the Orh Kueh from Ah Eng’s Orh Kueh. The mini orh kueh was packed with soft yam cubes, mushrooms, hei bi and meat. It also came with their homemade chilli which went super well with the orh kueh. A nostalgic treat for the senses.
