If you’re in the mood for Middle Eastern food, check out Styxx! They’ve just opened at Maxwell and serve up flavour-packed dishes prepared over a charcoal grill.
Open Kitchen Concept

The store features an open kitchen concept, allowing customers to watch as their skewers get grilled.
It makes the whole environment more lively and makes the dining experience more relaxed.

The sleek black tables are lined up in a row for a more intimate yet modern feel.
Styxx Menu

The meal starts with a complimentary plate of Saluf and 3 accompanying spreads; Black Tahini (black sesame and black garlic tahini), Matbuha (spicy tomato relish), and Pickles.
Saluf is a traditional Middle Eastern flatbread and is baked fresh in-house.
Out of the 3 spreads, our favourite was the Matbuha because it was the most well-balanced spread.
Mediterranean Side Plates

For the side plates, we had the Hummus Baladi & Falafel ($18) and Freekeh Salad ($17).
The Hummus was soft and creamy while the falafel had a crisp exterior, which we enjoyed. We do wish more hummus was given!
Freekah Salad featured toasted green wheat and served with smoked labneh cheese. It had an interesting texture and a slightly nutty flavour. Definitely an acquired taste!
Charcoal-Grilled Skewers

Out of the two skewers we had – King Oyster Mushroom ($18) and Layered Kebab ($16) – we preferred the King Oyster Mushroom. It was juicy, tender and really flavourful!
The Layered Kebab is a mix of beef and lamb so it was slightly gamey.
Sharing Dishes

Our meal followed with a Half Chicken ($26), which was brined for 24 hours, marinated in harissa (North African chilli paste), and smoked in applewood.
It had a rich, deep flavour, and was a memorable dish. We couldn’t get enough of it!
The Taboon Lahme ($34) features slow-cooked lamb stew with vegetables, wrapped in traditional bread.
The bread had a great texture that complemented the thick lamb stew, which didn’t have an excessively gamey taste.
Desserts

To wrap up the meal on a sweet note, we had the Baklava And Kadaif ($15).
This is pricey but so tasty! The baklavas we’ve had before were drowning in sugar syrup and were overly sweet, but not this one.
It had just the right amount of sweetness and had a crisp exterior with a nice crunch from the nuts. Definitely a must-try when you’re here.
